I'm a Shotokan practitioner. It's interesting to see the Tekki Kata done in the Shorin Ryu stances and different interpretations of the arm movements. I can see how Funakoshi Sensei adopted and changed the movements for Shotokan...since this is probably how he originally learned the kata.
@joumasepoes88 Жыл бұрын
Yes it is how he learned it and how he taught it. It changed drastically after his death. If shorin ryu had a son in special ed classes it’s name would be shotokan. It’s not even a shadow of what Funakoshi sensei originally took to the mainland.
@haffoc Жыл бұрын
@@joumasepoes88 I am not so sure about this. There's a video available showing Funakoshi's method from 1924 which doesn't look much different in the way kata was performed or techniques executed than it does today.

Love this interview. An amazing character and you brought out the best in him. You are doing an absolutely brilliant job... what you are producing is art in itself. Like many Shorin stylists, he embodies the phrase "an iron fist in a velvet glove".

At his age, many can barely get off the bed. Amazing physical condition. And how on Earth did he managed to stay so thin, what did he eat?
@OkinawanSpirit2 жыл бұрын
I've thought about creating an episode talking about what older masters usually eat. In general it is plenty of rice, veggies, miso soup, some fish, limited meat, and limited portion sizes. Many of the masters drink socially but in moderation, I don't know any that smoke, and of course they all continue to exercise regularly even if it is not at the same level as in their youth.
