I recommend you give it another try. The plot progression playing along-side a linear path makes for engaging, hard-hitting scenes, especially when the movie makes the danger apparent. Admittedly, it's not a perfect movie, and it may not even become a classic. However, it's a good watch, and it has alot of thematic and narrative thread to unspool.

I like how they're taking something animal-rights-based and making it something entertainment-focused and creative. Me and my brother were always the "I know it's bad blah blah blah but it just tastes too good to stop eating it" kind, and this film made us realize that we in fact knew nothing about what we were eating. And we needed this big cute animal, that's more similar to something we can love and appreciate to open our eyes. Those animals are born to die. Thank you Netflix for giving us this film, me and my brother haven't eaten meat since the first lockdown and we're happy and actually healthier than we were before. Please watch it if you're considering it, it's so spontaneous and unique and the message gets clearly to the viewer, even though it isn't strictly straight-forward.

@porkcutlet39203 жыл бұрын
If she had done that, she would have been arrested and Okja would have become food. No matter how anyone spins it, the pigs were the property of the Mirando Corp. In fact, she should have been arrested for her actions throughout the film, not to mention taking Okja away when it didn't really belong to her.
@murakami17933 жыл бұрын

The movie is allegorical in the sense that it highlights the unconscionable practices of big business and the hypocrisy of consumers. It is less about activism for global vegetarianism and more about how we treat one another as well as animals (even when we plan to eat them for food). We see this balanced theme in the use of fish and chicken as food by Mija and her grandfather, just as we saw the cautionary tale in taking these causes to the extreme, as when Silver (a member of the Animal Liberation Front) swooned from inanition, a result of his refusal to eat even the smallest tomato because of his belief that all forms of food production are exploitative. The hypocrisy of consumers who complain about animal treatment and welfare, about child labour and sweat shops, but who still demand (and bargain hunt) for cheaper prices was exquisitely represented in Nancy Mirando's remark that, "if it's cheap, they will buy it." A damning verdict on where the true loyalties of customers lie - Their pocket? Or effecting real change? You can't have both. You can't demand for cheaper prices and not ask how businesses will support such price points! Mija gave up her golden pig to redeem Okja whom she considered family. Keep in mind that in Korean society, a golden pig is gifted to a girl of marrigeable age as a dowry and was thus a steep price paid to ransom her friend, just as the gimlet-eyed Nancy acknowledged that "this thing is worth a lot of money." The corollary is this: How much are you willing to pay for the change you claim to desire? How willing are you to put your money where your mouth is? If you truly desire reform of big business, what advantages are you willing to let go to see that happen?

I am neither pro vegan no anti vegan. I don't believe this film is begging you to go vegan. It's just a creative film with a powerful message. If you are vegan or want to go vegan because of this film, that's your choice. I don't think any fights should break out over this. Hollywood needs more films like this, that inspire, entertain, and create a surreal original experience.

jasonisstupid _ I dont think theres a single vegan in it outright stated. The little girl eats fish. Except technically that blond guy whos refusing to eat anything at all to cause no harm at all to the planet lol. Funny thing is hes not wrong, the vermin and soil microbiology are still going to end up killed in even the most ethical plant farming

i think this movie was about the gmo food. that was a reality in food industry now. i agreed this is not the story of vegan or do not eat animal story this is story about that okja is a pet of mija. If we as a human take whatever animal to take home and get bond with it love it, then the animal consider as a pet like cats and dogs. gmo food is dangerous to consume cause it will lead to many sick enviroment.

Some people really need to chill. I'm not a vegan, I'm not even a vegetarian, but I still think this film will be fucking awesome. It's just a story, it's not like it forces anyone to stop eating meat - maybe it promotes vegan/vegetarian style of life but I don't mind. There's no reason to be angry about that.
@airemchavez83357 жыл бұрын
anaiah when you see the end of the movie youll change your mind im not mad but i am angry on how humans treat animals. Most animals that we eat die painful and slow and who knows what type of sick shit loads them with chemicals that affects us. You know i used to hate vegeterians so much because of how greatly annoying they are but after watching this movie idk even know anymore and i honestly think that ill change the way i eat not completely but i dont want to eat an animal that has been through painful shit and has to die over and over again yeah death is the cycle of life but we dont see ourselfs dying like that we dont see humans being burned alive like pigs do.

Because that's just not gonna happen anytime soon but tells you how important animals can be to some people and that they have emotions too. The least we can do is treat them nicely and with love. Review: This movie exposes to us what livestock has to go through. miracle pigs do not exist but everything else in this movie does; the rape, injections and just simply a massacre. when I saw this movie, I cried so much and what made me cry more was the fact that people don't do ANYTHING about this, it's just...horrible. I chose to not eat any more meat, I love animals and they deserve to be treated with respect. imagine being in their situation, it wouldn't feel so good. STOP THE ABUSE OF ANIMALS! in conclusion, this movie is amazing in terms of showing us the true reality of the pain and suffering animals go through, this movie should help open our eyes to see who the pig really is, us humans. Spread the message, less meat!!!

Looks fascinating. A strong statement against both corporate greed, and the illogic of remaining a carnivore. Look up "animal cruelty in the food industry" and see how things are really done. Then realize that acres of land must be used to feed the animals that get slaughtered. I used to love steaks and burgers. But I quit eating that stuff after discovering the hideous conditions animals suffer in the "business," how those burgers are actually made and all the crap that goes into 'em, and how much environmental impact it has on the planet.

Dovahsaurus PaleoKnight You’re just wrong. There are some rules Shure but c’mon. Chicken live in a crate where they can barely even turn around for most Of their life. They get their claws and beeks removed (usually without amnestethia) and often get starved for days on end because they lie more eggs. Pigs often don’t ever see daylight. They can often times not even turn around. They are genetically modified so walking around causes a lot Of pain. Cows get seperated from calves when they’re born (they go through server depression and stress). They get milked because it hurts for them and guess what, it’s because they are modified! The abuse just goes on and on as millions Of animals, innocent sentient beings get killed every year. There are regulatos, sure. In most countries these regularions are mere as basic as it can get and they do not have any freedom or happiness whatsoever. Regulations in the us are among the worst in the world actually. And this Why? Because corporate scum want to make money and because people think it tastes good. Not to mention the horrible climate effects.

+Magestic Pony Is it OK if I kill a sentient creature if I give it a nice life? You can talk to any _local_ farmer out there. They never/rarely give their animals names, so they don't form emotional bonds with them. At the end of the day they're just a product, an object to be consumed regardless of their _quality_ of life or the space they are given to roam in. _Free-range_ is a *fantasy* (there is not enough space on Earth to grow _free-range_ meat for 7 billion people) and _humane slaughter_ is an *oxymoron* (slaughter implies excruciating pain and torture).

i honestly dont think this movie is about being vegan, the main characters eats meat. What does soul searching have to do with being vegan? its dumb stuff like that that make people uncomfortable with the word vegan, because so many pushy people are associated with that word. They take EVERY opportunity to shame people who eat meat and tell them how horrible the process is and try to suggest OVER AND OVER to stop eating meat and try vegan recipes even if the person doesn't want to. Stop, veganism is not a fucking religion, stop talking about soul searching shit.
