Nice! Replacing the flywheel spokes with a flat, circular plate would give less wind resistance and either use less power or spin faster. it also sounds like it could use a good balancing. I'm imagining a recumbent E-bike, but with a small 2-stroke engine and generator set up to do double duty as a gyro balance system... May have to set up a controllable 3rd axis to get it to lean..?

Okki Moeljadi i think we can figure out the rpm of this gyro. what camera did you use to film it? what is the frame rate of that camera? when the gyro is spinning up, there is a repeating illusion that looks like the spokes of the wheel are stalling. this is because the frame rate of your camera and the time it takes for the wheel to rotate over to the next identically appearing position are the same. So, when we observe the wheel stalling over and over in the video, that is due to the wheel accelerating through intervals of this special rmp required for the effect to happen.

What happens if there is no gimbal? Of course the whole vehicle would try to precess but as it is, aren't you losing some of the gyro stability by decoupling it from the vehicle? I'm thinking you can reduce precession by finding the proper balance of the gyro so it isn't trying to tip over under gravity.
@OkkiMoeljadi8 жыл бұрын
It is possible to use gyro without gimbal, but the platform has to have only one wheel or it has to stand on one pole. If you lock one of the precession axis (e.g. by using two wheels) you have to use gimbal.

Tastethe CoffeeJack This isn't quite true, he has made a gyroscope, a "single axis" gyroscope rather than 2 or 3 axis we are familiar with. For this project he's only looking for stability in one axis (roll). If we use the right hand rule to determine which way the resisting force will act, he's got it spot on.
