Just got my bronco pro last week, assembled and burned it in. This is the most helpful video out there. Went to the hardware store and got stainless steel bolts, washers, and nuts. Like you I replaced the ones in the lid hinge too. Applied the RTV during assembly, also did it outside the drum where the two pieces come together. Used a caulking tool to make sure it was in there good and tight. I drilled a hole in the side to add a probe port, used the OKJ step bit and it worked well. Think I need to do a second burn tho, since I’m going to clean it out from the metal shavings and crud from the first cook. Thanks for this video!

@jkacal did you go with flange bolts or bolts, nuts and washers? I’m new to all of this. What size washers if any?

I can't seem to find food safe 650 degree RTV in black. I can only find it in red. What brand has this in black? Thanks!

Flange hexbolt v. Hexbolt with washer. Any preference?

What size bolts did you go with?

1/4 X 20 thread x 3/4” long. My local hardware store had a box of 50 for $12.79. You will use the whole box if you change out all the bolts including pre assembly.

Not sure if this is still active but I had a couple of questions

@@jkacal I guess it’s probably a little too late bc I already used it and can’t go back but I was wondering did you have issues with fumes from the sealant? I had some issues with my pro leaking on the bottom and figured I should probably just do the whole shubang so everything is done now I am just letting it cure overnight, and I got rid of that Chinese crap lol

I used the food grade RTV and didn’t notice any fumes. Oil it down after the rtv seals and do a burn it. After that, get to cooking.

@@jkacal yeah I used the lava lock RTV 650 I actually already cooked on it a hand full of time and heard of the leaks and thought I was good until I looked underneath and seen the mess lol so I made sure wherever I was going to apply sealer it was clean with water only of course! So should I do another burn in or should I be good?

@@chefp2010 is just go for it honestly if you used the good rtv. It’s food safe so I wouldn’t be scared to run it.

IDK I'm thinking using a washer instead of cutting those rods shorter.

You didn’t need to use RTV. It would have sealed itself. They really don’t leak.

Mine leaked like a sieve even after a few cooks, until I took it apart and sealed it with RTV. I had grease dripping from where the top and bottom sections join, as well as from a few of the bolt holes in the bottom. I was just going to be patient and hope the "gunk" would do its thing, but then one day I let the lid close kind of hard and hot grease spattered from that middle joint all over my shins. 😅

@@sdroy1968 I have the Bronco Pro model. I will admit....it's seems to be better built than the Bronco. OKJ does have major quality issues when it comes to their builds all being equally the same. I would have just taken it in to a welder and have a metal guy seal it up that way before RTV. Would only cost you 20-40 bucks.
@sdroy19682 жыл бұрын
@@dayolddoughnuts4031 I kind of questioned whether the RTV would get it done, but I fired the Bronco Pro up yesterday and it didn't leak a drop. The tube of RTV was less than $15.

I disagree, mine leaked badly. Stripes down the side. Looks horrible. Wont seal itself.
