Oklahoma social studies teacher here. He is saying that he wants to bring back the bible as a reference source. However, the mandate does not reflect that. The mandate requires a bible to be present in every classroom. A bible in a math classroom has no educational value. The mandate also requires the study of literary techniques in the bible meaning the bible will be used outside of historical context. The bible may have symbolism in its text but you do not need to study biblical symbolism to learn about symbolism. Despite that, the idea that students don't learn about Christianity's impact of the development of America is insane. Oklahoma educational standards for social studies are public information. Part of those standards include teaching students the part religion played in the developing nation. Every social studies teacher I know of mentions the bible and Christianity in historical context and having a bible physically present serves no real purpose in teaching that historical context. This man is arguing against something that is not occurring to justify a mandate that is not Constitutional so that people will not look critically at his mandate.

The founding fathers/framers of the constitution may have waxed poetic in their personal correspondence and may have been believers of various sects or denominations, yet they, when determining how this document should be worded, understood that the republic they had envisioned was to be for all men (people). They understood that to weave the tenets of any form of any religion into the laws and statutes of this new nation would doom it to endless division and strife. That's why the word "God" or any reference to a deity or specific ideology is conspicuously absent from its text.

Genesis 19:30-36. I would LOVE to be in the classroom when this father raper story is taught! New International Version Lot and His Daughters 30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children-as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.” 33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 36 So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.

I would include a lengthy section on how the literate elites of Judah cobbled together myths and legends they were exposed to during the Babylonian exile. I would make it clear that this collection of books was never intended as accurate history and certainly not a science book. And I would do a project around identifying all the prophesies that never were fulfilled. And I would focus a good amount of time on reading aloud in class from the King James Version.

@davidkeller6156Ай бұрын
@@TheNickels86 The more I thought about what you said the more I realize you have never really looked at any research about these topics. So here’s a few things to look into. Let’s start with the Pentateuch, the first five Books. The creation story. There!s a marked similarity with the Babylonian Enuma Elish , an older Babylonian story. The. There’s the flood of Noah, also based on an older Babylonian story which is based on an even older Sumerian story. Adam and Eve and a snake are found the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest known piece of literature. Just a reminder, the Jews were captured by the Babylonians in 597 BC and held until 539 BC. This is also the time when the Torah first came together. Many of the laws in the Torah are almost word for word from the Babylonian Code Of Hammurabi, the oldest known law code that influenced other cultures in the area. Moses birth story is almost exactly like the story of Sargon of Akkad, which predates Moses by 1,000 years. Then comes the Exodus which has absolute no archeological evidence to back it up . In fact the whole conquest of Canaan is questionable since the Jews were, in fact, Canaanites. Jericho, that great walled city Joshua supposedly conquered was at the time I small village with no walls as were some of the other places he supposedly conquered. Let’s move to the New Testament. The four Gospels and Acts were written by unknown authors. The original manuscripts had no names associated with them. They were also written in highly educated Greek. The 12 disciples coming as they did from small villages around Galilee, spoke Aramaic and wouldn’t have been exposed to Greek much, if at all, and were highly likely to have been illiterate. Literacy, especially at the level needs to write and compose in Greek, was the privilege of the wealthy. Small villages around Galilee show no signs of having any schools or even synagogues where someone could learn to write, not to mention life being a hand to mouth existence where children would have been working as soon as they were able. Now as to the rest of the New Testament, only 7 of the 13 Pauline epistles were definitely written by Paul. None of the other letters could’ve e been written by those who claim to have written them. A Revelation was almost not included in the canon and only made it in at the last minute. Another Apocalypse, the Apocalypse of Peter, almost made it in. No one knows who wrote it except his name is John, but not the same John who was attributed as the author of the gospel. The Gospel of John was written in highly educated Greek, while Revelation was very crude by comparison. So there, if you want to teach the Bible in schools, teach the truth about it.

The superintendent is concerned with accuracy in history, but knows not what he preaches: (1) George Washington, the first president of the United States, never declared himself a Christian according to contemporary reports or in any of his voluminous correspondence. (2) John Adams, the country's second president, wrote, “This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!" (3) It was during Adam's administration that the Senate ratified the Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which states in Article XI that "the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion." (The Character of John Adams by Peter Shaw, pp. 17 (1976, North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill, NC) (4) Thomas Jefferson, third president and author of the Declaration of Independence, referred to the Revelation of St. John as "the ravings of a maniac" ( Thomas Jefferson, an Intimate History by Fawn M. Brodie, p. 453 (1974, W.W) Norton and Co. Inc. New York, NY). (5) James Madison, fourth president and father of the Constitution, wrote, "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise. . . pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution" (The Madisons by Virginia Moore, P. 43 (1979, McGraw-Hill Co. New York, NY) and so much more history to teach about how our founding fathers felt about Christianity and it's blind followers.

First, our constitution has a biblical foundation and George Washington our first president dedicated this country to the purposes of God... Second, any lawmaker that's pushing against bringing the Bible back into the school must be a traitor to this country... And, it's Constitution. They obviously think that they have a right that's greater than ours...wrong. Third, we're not asking for Catholic catechism to be taught in public schools Ryan Walters... Two things I remember about elementary school and growing up in America, prior to the 60s anti-theist movement... 1. It was considered a coveted honor to be able to read a chapter of the Bible before class started...and, 2. We still said the pledge of allegiance... So I don't pledge allegiance to a flag I do pledge allegiance to a country that honors God. I hope you're not going to try to use that lame excuse about the separation of church and state when they don't even understand what that was about...

I think it's ridiculous that people are getting upset that the school will simply be citing historical references to the Bible where applicable, because of how the Bible is referred to by our forefathers and other historical figures. It's needed to fully understand the context of historical events because it was referenced so many times. No one is saying they are going to have a Sunday school class. 🙄 You people want to hate on Oklahomans but you can't even put aside your biases to understand what Ryan Walters was even saying, yet we're the unintelligent ones. That's ironic.

Cool story. Will they also be teaching how many people were kill for witchcraft in the name of Christianity in the U.S.? Will they be teaching how Christian slave owner force their beliefs onto their slaves, and would beat them while holding a bible? Will they teach how Christian fought against desegregation? How they would not allow biracial couples be married or allow them to rest in their cemeteries? Will they teach how Christian's treated Native Americans? The list goes on and on. Will they teach any of that?

Well, the Bible is the only way. It's the road map to being a good person. A teacher's is how to treat 1 another. And I think it's a good idea. Somehow we don't, but that's our own personal opinion. The kids nowadays are the parent. They tell. The parents what they want, what they want to do, not in all cases let a lot of it.A lot of parents just let them do what they want so they don't have to fool with them
