Severe weather where I live results in maybe an outdoor chair tipping over. Serious question for people in Oklahoma, Texas etc. what’s it like at night when it’s time to sleep? Do you go to sleep or are you up all night nervous that your in the path of a tornado? Do they mainly occur during the day?
@KS-se3hp5 жыл бұрын
Weather radio or phone alerts set for your city or county can wake you. Tornados can happen at night which makes them even more dangerous.
@ChokeAndPokeGaming5 жыл бұрын
Don’t think it matters what time of day. Thankfully for radar(and lightning) they can usually tell if there’s a tornado. Also more and more people are buying underground shelters for a couple thousand. I don’t sleep though. You don’t rely on the sirens. If it has a hook and it’s coming to you. You’re already in the shelter.

The shelter is ready during storm season. A NOAA weather radio is pretty common in tornado alley. It will wake you up if a tornado warning is issued while you're asleep. Hell, it'll wake up the whole house. But I tend to watch the radar and see what the predictions are on busy weather nights during the Spring and Fall before I go to bed. It's just a part of life here, but the chances of being in the path are relatively low. Still want to take shelter to be on the safe side.

You ask a really good question. I hope I can answer it to some degree. I probably don’t speak for most of us and certainly don’t want to suggest that I do. I live in east central Oklahoma and tornados occur fairly evenly between late afternoon and night. We are blessed on several fronts here. Our television stations have invested millions in the finest radar technology, helicopters, chasers, accomplished severe weather meteorologist and competent support staff. It truly is second to none. The NWS Severe Prediction Center in Norman, world class meteorological educational and research facilities at OU combined with the latest technological advancements in cell and tv notification systems allows the majority of us to just go on to bed. If severe weather pops up in our area, especially tornado activity, our phones and tv’s go off with ear splitting alerts. No one could sleep through it. Most of us Okies grew up here and we know what to look for. You can “feel” those days because the air is just “different”. Also, local tv stations alert us days before as to when we need to be paying attention. It can get a little stressful but, as with anything, you just learn to accept it and live with it. Have a great one!

When a tornado is heading toward a town, they will say it as many times as they can to get the word out in case people are just starting to tune in. If you live in the path, you are thankful.
