Man when I was a kid my dad was stationed at Kadena from 1985 to 1992. Remember this place like it was yesterday. That and watching the SR-71 take off at night

The location has had major upgrades and I can't wait to go back We created some of the first walking paths on the hill heading to the North Beach, cleared spaced for what became the "singles camping area and oh my, special times to have a few beers on top of the water tower checking out the stars!!! Augmentee medic, bar back, ski instructor and so much more.

Thank you for your video, which brings back many fond memories. I used to enjoy Okuma as a very young boy in 1960. My father was based at Naha in the U.S.A.F. We loved that beach. I would spend hours catching Semi's that would rest on the sides of trees, using split bamboo sticks with the split section wrapped in spider web to place on top of the Semi to catch it. 😃

Man, I really miss that place so much! My family and I went there back in April to May of 2002 when I was 10 years old (born in September of 1991) so many great childhood memories of that place! How I'd love to visit that place again 22 years later!

Me and my Japanese roommate literally stumbled into here from the JAL resort we were staying at down the street over 20 years ago. All this was pre-9/11. Security was different then, all that happened was a long walk along the shoreline followed by a slow realization. Back then the resort was less built up but still gorgeous, it was great to see it if briefly and accidentally. We only discovered we entered my home country from Japan because a kind and lonely military wife visiting almost alone with her toddler noticed us and chatted us up. I can’t remember her name, but I’d like to thank her for introducing Yuka to corn chips and salsa from the store. The best view in all in Okinawa is here! Thank you for your service as well. 😊 Edit: thank you for the nostalgia as well, despite the changes a few of those beaches really hit me.

Really nice video! Thank you for posting this. We were stationed at Kadena in the late 60s and it almost seems like we grew up on those two beaches at Okuma. Of course, the resort is actually more upscale now with the JAL influence but the general layout has not changed. The beach close to your cabins seems better maintained now than in the 60s but the other beach looks very similar. It was nice to see the inside of the restaurant. It's more upscale now, obviously, but the layout looked familiar. Of course we were driving on the right side of the road back then, LOL. This is a really good comprehensive video of Okuma in such a short video. Very well done!

I worked( not really 😂) here in 1982 ! I was a Marine Sgt assigned this duty...yes assigned ( lol ) I REALLY lucked out ! This was a vacation. No formations, no PT, no haircuts. It was the off season and my only duty was to show a reel to reel movie once every couple days. I shared duties like putt putt golf and windsurfing with 4 other military staff. Our Boss was an older American man (civilian) ...it was Beautiful then ! I walked the beach every day finding various sizes of glass balls( used for boyancee in the nets of fisherman) I could tell some stories about the Ghost of Habu Hill...for another day.

had the pleasure of being assigned there in mid 80s and the four marines, assigned at the time, were awesome. Used to laugh when the Gunny would show up to perform the PT tests and watching them stress out.... At least when assigned to the check-in desk I could use autovon to call the family and check on my six month old daughter and wife once a week. Having Yamaguchi driving south (before the expressway was built) picking up mail was the highlight of the week. Dealing with the drunk folks in the single camp ground was always a pleasure. Camping out on top of the water towere was always fun and I assume you guys did the same. Good Times but I sure missed my family

Instagram is FamVestor. I think it’s normal for your knee to get swollen after a long day of walking. It wasn’t until recently that my knee stopped swelling after running and I am over a year out.
