Do you judge ONE value from your subject and decide on a value for your panel based on that?

actually Greg I generally use a value 3 or 4 (on the Munsell scale, where 0 is white). The reason is that this value often matches the value of the sky in a landscape and so helps you judge other values more easily. Barry
