For those commenting that it sounds like The Lord of the Rings, the beginning progression is the exact same one that Howard Shore used after Gandalf's fall in the Mines of Moria. It's the last minute and a half or so from the track The Bridge of Khazad-dum..

Gjeilo freely admits that Howard Shore's score for Fellowship, specifically the second half of "The Bridge of Khazad-Dum", was the inspiration for the opening of this piece.

You are very good and Gjeilo is a truly genius! My choir sang "The Rose" and "Days of Beauty" with new arrangements, both adapting for mixed choir, with male and female voices and making spectacular videos! We were able to reach the same Gjeilo who was thrilled. Write this in the search: you will surely like them! Corale Novarmonia - Days of Beauty (O. Gjeilo) SATB Choir Corale Novarmonia - The Rose (O. Such a beautiful performance of a beautiful work. Just wondering who the fine cellist is on this recording? No credit is given an the solo is so prominent.
@charlottestaples28456 жыл бұрын
Good point!
@matthewscott71986 жыл бұрын
The cellist was Emmanuel Lopez, of the Harrington String Quartet. The piece was originally conceived for soprano soloist and choir, but there was simply no way any soprano could sing phrases as long as were required, especially at Bruffy's tempo. Earlier the same day, the choir had recorded "Dark Night of the Soul," featuring the string quartet. Mr. Lopez was asked to give the soprano solo a try on his cello, and, as you can hear, it worked very well. This change was later incorporated in the published score.

Ever since we played the band arrangement in band - and I could barely stay awake while playing this piece, beautiful as it is - I've listened to the choral version to help me get to sleep. It has a surreal dreamy quality the instrumental version does somewhat lose.
