I performed this with my choir recently at the Heritage Festival in Nashville, and if you think hearing it is beautiful, wait until how it feels to perform it. You just get engulfed by the music. Contributing to such an amazing sound is feels incredible. It will forever be one of my favorite pieces.

I have never sung this song, but one of my most vivid memories from my senior year was watching another choir perform Tundra at a competition. The choir I was in had just finished our sightreading, and we were waiting in the foyer to go back to our seats in the performance area. The choir on stage was performing Tundra, and I remember I closed my eyes and just listened. Listening to the choir perform Tundra made me relax and remind myself of the real reason we were there and a part of choir. We weren't there to win but to create something beautiful that will inspire others. This was before Spring Break in March, and the memory I have of this moment and of this song has taken on a whole new meaning.

The name of the piece and knowing the composer comes from Norway makes me think of ice cold climates, mountains topped with snow, vistas of white for miles around, and all alone, away from people, troubles and problems. Night falls and the Aurora appears. Green and red energy towering above me undulating in the icy wilderness, and all is well.

Rob I am from Östersund, Sweden, and as a Swede I can confirm that Norway does not look like that! I’m talking about Norway in a whole. Of course, some parts are like that, but in order to do that you’ll have to travel up north to Finnmark. Most people reside in the fjord city of Oslo or Bergen, but that’s about it. And plus, all the beautiful parts of Norway are either hidden or discovered, the discovered ones already vanishing due to tourism and the climate change. It’s sad, but Norway is truly a beautiful country, it’s just not as what most people expect it to be.

hey love! i thought u might find this interesting. this february we sang this in our all state choir, and there was a bit of information on the piece included on the music. the lyrics were written by a poet that the composer knows- she simply told him the name of the piece and he went from there. absolutely gorgeous words and music. xoxo

i just sang this with the KMEA All State SSAA Choir under the direction of the incredible Dr. Lynnel Joy Jenkins and it was incredible. this piece is soo soo moving. there was a moment in our rehearsal where she was begging for us to connect to one another instead of just singing the correct thing written in the music. so she had us turn around in different directions in our chairs and sing the piece and during the decrescendo to “unmoving” i literally started crying bc the sound was so full and just present and you could tell afterwards that we had all done something incredible bc we all gasped at the end. this piece is truly magnificent.

This was the first piece of yours that I ever performed. It was freshman year in high school with GMEA's All State Senior Women's chorus. I'll never forget the experience. There was a time in practice where we were told to forgo the lyrics and just sing it on an "oo" vowel. It. Was. Heaven. I swear, the sound took on a life of its own.

If ever I were to choose a song for my funeral, this would be one of my most considered. I sang this freshman year in choir and am now a senior. I remember hearing it and it being the world filling my heart with a joy so full of purity. Now Ive grown. And this sounds like a heaven I am awaiting in my time of darkness. This song is painful now. I now hate the choir and quit it, I hate most the people I sang this song alongside back then and I hate the people I saw in practice. I hate the images I see in my head when I remember the 3 years in hs choir. All the dramatic images of me running outside during renaissance festival sophomore year to cry and sing smile by nat king cole as some self comfort, the images of my toxic ex growing more toxic each year, the images of my director bashing me and me holding it in until I can quickly walk out with my head down in shame to cry in a hidden corner, and I mean full breakdown and cry with noise and hiccups. Remembering going to the bathroom before class to avoid the same director greeting me as much as possible and whenever he did just nodding quietly and barely singing. The suck ups, the liars, the show offs and the favorites and then me. A backup to all these people. My director really had the audacity to ask me why I quit over Remind™ like he didnt constantly put my self esteem lower than the bass notes in our songs. I can never, however, bring myself to hate this song. It makes music out of all of my emotions that pour out in a dying scream before I fall back into the void to be a background again. This song was one of the few times in that choir I felt part of the choir. That the voice was not sectioned into categories or groups, the song was part of the select few pieces I remember as a "we". Thank you for that.
