Fluff did one too, and Mesa. Both just glossed right over channel 2 b/c it’s trash. 😂
@TheGgreen100 Жыл бұрын
@@PaulEubanks I don't think we should be so quick to judge channel 2. Even Ola was quick to dial up the Bass knob of the Mark VII mode because the marketing and manual says it's "Recto inspired" instead of testing it with the Bass knob set low like he did with the Lead channels. The Crunch of the Mark V:25 is awesome, so I have to imagine it would at least be passable on this amp as well. But, we still won't know for sure until we hear channel 2's Crunch and Mark VII modes dialed the same as channel 3 (high treble, low mid and bass) and directly compared with those sounds, then compared with other Mark amps in the same video.
@PaulEubanks Жыл бұрын
@@TheGgreen100 Nah, I'm not gonna make excuses for it. If the dials sound bad dialed in a certain way, they should fix that with the frequency range of the pot sweep. Same thing happened w/ Fluff's video, just harsh grating tones outta channel 2. Chuck channel 2 straight in the bin.

Well IMO, Its logical to have a comparison at this point. You have the V, jp2c, and the vii that all claim "iic+" with it. I haven't played a v in years but i kinda remember the iic+mode just being a little bit less gain than the iv mode. Not really much of a different vibe or feel overall, but again it's been a while so i gotta take it with a grain of salt. Someone like Ola that has the original iic+, a jp2c and this mk vii could make one hell of a shootout to compare how close each amps "modes" are and see if they really do it justice, different feature set aside. I sort of look at them each as having their own unique thing going on anyway and they are all cool in their own right, but you cant help but wonder how they feel
@Traski Жыл бұрын
I like the VII mode, tbh. Modern, and not in that sterile kind of way. It has a nice bite, enough bottom end to make it fat and clarity of notes - cuts through really well. At least in the video it sounded good, can't say how it sounds like in the room.

@vaportrails7943 Жыл бұрын
Having now had some significant time with both the Mark V and Mark VII, I think I can describe the differences pretty well. The bottom line is that the core Mark sound is the same, but on the Mark V, all of the extra tone shaping controls basically allow you to create a “pre-mixed” type of sound. Meaning the things a mix engineer would do after the fact, you can do with the amp. The Mark VII is much more raw, punchy and aggressive. Even on the clean channels. It sounds and feels more like the kind of guitar amps we’re used to. The head is significantly smaller than the Mark V, but the sound is bigger. The Mark V is an incredible amp from an engineering standpoint, and it could arguably be better for a live setting where you want a perfectly balanced and sculpted tone straight out of the amp. But for raw feeling and energy, the Mark VII beats it. Anyone who’s done any mixing knows how EQ, compression, etc can sort of shrink the tone, in order to fit in to a mix. If you want to do that with your band live, the Mark V has tools for it. But then the Mark VII has direct XLR out and cab clone for going straight into the board. I’m keeping the Mark VII, and selling the Mark V. It may seem like less of an amp in some ways, but it simply sounds better. A lot of people complained that the Mark V was too complicated and too hard to dial in. I think they really hit a home run with this one. If you want a Mark amp in 2023, the VII is the one. It has the classic tone, pure and awesome, with modern features and portability. But it’s not cheap. That’s the one drawback.
@boboutelama574811 ай бұрын
For me, the big difference between the mark V and the VII was that Mesa could deliver the V. I know many peoples that had a Mark V delivered to them, or, more crazy, they got in a shop and bought it. The Mark VII is unavailable, like every other Mesa Boogie product. They must be at the brink of bankruptcy at this point. Not able to deliver a single amp for more than 10 months now.

I have both the Mark V and VII, and disagree that one is better than the other. They sound different enough that I can enjoy having both in an amp switcher. I honestly don't prefer one to the other. In fact, there are times when I crave the V over the VII! To me, the V can sound more refined, like a gentleman's amp. Fluff did a good comparison of Mark IV modes between the IV, V and VII. The V and VII were both equally well within the ball park.

Ola, you inspired me to get more active on my own KZbin channel. It's not easy but feels really good when I finally press upload. Hope you have a good weekend, man! 🤘 EDIT - Also it's weird seeing the 5 band EQ go down to 80hz, I usually low pass at around 120hz. Drop C is about 131hz. I guess that's more for live/in the room tone. Also weird that you cut out all the mids, I haven't personally played through a Mesa Mark amp so i guess that's what it needs. Sounds really sick! I sold my oversized Mesa 4x12 a while back and I'm still kicking myself for it. Was by far the best cab I've ever used. It had the pre2006 v30s in it. Glenn shared a free Ir that's pretty close to that old cab I had so I use that now. If you're looking for another video idea, it would be cool to hear this amp compared to the badlander. Cheers.
@axepharaoh Жыл бұрын
Credit for saying "settings look weird" but being humble enough to get it might be you not understanding it, so many clueless people trashing Mesa players dipping the 750, what they don't understand is Marks have SO MUCH mids that being just above the bottom line equals noon on a regular amp, that's the reason.
@bobking7347 Жыл бұрын
E standard is actually 82.5 hz or so at the lowest string... Drop c is about 65hz, setting a highpass at 120hz would cut off a lot of low end brotha, a low pass filter is what people use for subwoofers, frequencies from 0hz up to whatever is set will be passed, anything after will be chopped off to protect your woofer or subwoofer, a highpass filter will not pass anything beneath the set value, but pass everything above it, it matters to what style slope it is too, in the pro environment, it's usually 24db per octave.
@jsullivan2112 Жыл бұрын
The more you crank the treble on a Mark (which Ola likes to do) the less impact the mids and bass have on shaping the gain, so you might as well just put them on zero really. The bass tends to flub out on them if you have the gain really high and they're already super mid heavy, so his settings make sense for what he's going for. Also I don't really see the point of using a high pass on guitar unless you're doing it in a mix to make room for the bass guitar and kick drum. If you're just sitting in a room playing guitar there's not a whole lot of reason to do that when you can just shape the bottom end with EQ. You’re just castrating your tone.

This amp and JP are the shit! Hours if not days of sitting in front of the cabinet exploring tones till your ear bleed… then what? Your Fukn deaf! Great review Ola! Like I need another amp… definitely on my growing list of things I don’t need but want!

I don't know why Mesa/Boogie put in a Mark IIB mode, as the Mark IIC+ is a lot more useful!! Maybe they should've incorporated a Mark III mode, instead of the Mark IIB mode!! Otherwise, a great demo Ola!!
