Have the multiwatt Dual Rec and Joyo Zombie II, man what a steal for somebody on a small budget. There's a girth to the real thing and a bunch of versatility you definitely won't get, and they won't be mistaken for one another by anyone with ears, but as far as the red channel side of things it's about anything a person would really need in a metal band context. You still need a decent cab or an IR you like but you could get by with it. The younger players coming up today are swimming in low cost ways to get a good sound

It doesn’t sound bad at all actually!…with a 4x12 probably even better. I think the Fishmans don’t help it shine because they don’t have the same dynamic/deep low end as passives do (even with the 2nd voicing they sound kind of “flat-ish”). Anyway, nice seeing Jen pop in!

Yay Jen!! I think these mini amps are cool! I wish I had one of these when I was starting out. Makes for a good practice amp, I’ve seen videos of these being played in small venues as well.
@valuedhumanoid65742 жыл бұрын
My local GC has one of these set up along with the others and they're cool little amps, just don't expect any clean tones. These are almost like big distortion pedals. Even turning the volume down on the guitar and the gain cut way back I still got overdrive. This is metal/hard rock only
@12breacher822 жыл бұрын
I think that’s all they are going for. I have the Bogner model and it cleans up pretty well. The Friedman and SLO sound so similar, and the SLO kinda sounds a bit like the Diezel (which I also have), so I’m good. The Bogner for me is the superior head because it has the most tone tweaking options. But hey, they all give you the big brand flavor and for an attainable price. I wish I had one of these when I was a kid!
@ahriik2 жыл бұрын
They pretty much are big distortion pedals. As far as I've been able find online, the Diezel VH Micro is basically a rehoused version of the Diezel VH4 Preamp pedal, just with a built in power amp.

I think the Soldano sounds slightly better than the Diezel (and maybe also the Friedman) you demoed a few months ago. Then again, you're using a different cab and one mic here. Now you only need to get your hands on the Bogner Ecstasy Mini, so we have a complete(ish) picture of those four mini amps. My biggest issue with those amps is the lack of a clean channel. That (and the option to switch the channels with a footswitch) would make them perfect for smaller gigs. Man, Jen is such a delightful presence :D And there's just something about her smile :3

Dude...i just got one of your E1.6frlb. With the dime slime-ish finish. I got it in a trade and i am absolutely shocked. I want to start by saying iv owned and then sold/traded a LOT of $1000+ guitars in the past 3 years. I've tried most of the brands and most of the popular models... This guitar punches so astonishingly above its weight. Its shocking imo. I played nothing but 25.5 scale for a while, but realized i only like 25"/24¾" scale when i bought a carvin dc400. Since then I've been selling/trading all my 25.5 guitars. I ended up with a gibson LP faded HP, a bc rich mockingbird legacy ST, a carvin dc400, and a ⅞ warmoth(24¾" scale with 24 frets on a strat body) thats still being made. This guitar plays 100% just as good as those. No BS. I don't think the hype of a brand/model has ever lived up to it like this one...maybe i got a good one or maybe its just to my particular liking(which it is), but the playability, QC, and the pickups are 100% on point. Like I said its astonishing. FucknA man great friggn job. Im feelin that Solar hype. Consider me on the Solar team.

The problem isn't because it is in a small form factor, and it definitely is not because it is Solid State. The issue is due to class D power sections and the power plug being effectively just a juiced up 9 volt supply. Full size solid state amps of the past would have had a mains power supply and either Class A or AB amplifier within giving it's sound to the speaker. Speaking of metal, Randall comes to mind. You wouldn't call those weak or low bass and trebly. And the components in those could probably be transported into a smaller enclosure with all the same sound and greatness that those have. There's tons of great solid state amps that have been made in the past, but almost all of them now are just junk beginner amps or these with Class D power sections that just can't compete with a tube power section, since those have to be Class A to function.

This one is actually really interesting since there was no SLO pre-amp pedal that they could just slap a 30w SS power amp to. All the other mini amps from Boutique Amps Distribution are more or less just the pedal counterparts with a added power amp stage, but afaik Soldano does not build pedals. EDIT: Just noticed that Wampler (who's also a customer/partner of Boutique Amps Distribution) has built a Soldano pre-amp pedal called SLOstortion, so I'm guessing that this amp is based off of that (with a presence control instead of boost).
@silverstaralchemist2 жыл бұрын
I mean I don't know, Mike Soldano said in an interview he was hands-on in the build process and basically took the SLO circuit and replaced tubes, etc. with transistors/SS parts to stay true to the tone. But who knows how much of that is marketing or not 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: I believe it was in the Sweetwater SLO Mini release/interview video with Nick Bowcott.
@12breacher822 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s definitely NOT based on the Wampler, but because that’s a good pedal on it’s own you aren’t going to stray far from the sound either way.
@nj12552 жыл бұрын
@@silverstaralchemist Interesting! Then this probably is a completely original circuit (or more original than the other mini amps). I was just guessing that since Wampler and Soldano are pretty close that they used the SLOstortion.

@Maxu882 жыл бұрын
@@nj1255 I don't know how Slo Mini is built, but in a lot of cases amp in pedal form is not so different from real tube preamp. You can just replace tubes with Jfet transistors and it will work. Sometimes you can just tweak the eq im something is off, but generally every boutique amp-pedal is just a copy a real preamp. So amp companies don't put a pedal as a preamp - they just tweak real tube preamp to sound similar. The pedal manufacturers are the ones who's copying.
