Hey Ola! You might try positions 2 and 4 for a small amount of noise cancelling. Also a gate is essential for high gain on single coils especially if you are running lights and camera and all sorts of other electronics in the room causing the 60 cycle hum. I am however shocked that the thing won't stay in tune. Squier has been touted for stepping up their game lately. If you were going to keep it, which is obvious you won't, I'd recommend blocking the trem, a tusq nut, and Fender locking tuners.
@janzelf Жыл бұрын
Bullets aren't that well made these days. They're okay, but not 'for the money' anymore. Better to get a Harley Benton or even better and cheaper; a Fazley Outlaw Plus, these already have tusq nut - properly filed slots, etc. These Bullet Squiers aren't well serviced out of the box. Gotta do some work; filing down the fret-ends, filing down the nut-slots (keeps the guitar in tune), probably some intonation and hardtailing the trem, but definitly doing some shielding on the electronics which are just covered by a bare pickguard and bodycavity, probably swimming pool-style. Also, true about switching to different positions, was looking for this comment already, he didn't even touched the switch ;)

I got a new Bullet Strat from 2017 since it was so cheap and looked so cool (the black HSS one with the sparkly pickguard) and it was amazing to me. The pickups aren't good obviously, but they weren't horrid. The humbucker definitely helped a lot. The tuners were also bearable which I think is probably the thing they've updated the most on these. No problem with single coils-use noise gate or noiseless singles, about tuning-proper thick strings and guitar setup-guitar taken directly from box usually dosent tune...:)

These kind of guitars are notorious for coming stock with some of the cheapest and shittiest tuners known to man or beast. Epiphone- I'm looking at you, too! One of THE absolute first things that should be immediately replaced on an "student-level" instrument, would be the tuners, and likely the nut as well. Otherwise, you're just purchasing an exercise in frustration and futility.

An old guitar mate I used to play in a band with had the squier telecaster afinitty and this guitar reminds me that tone, and how noise it was
@sh1maru5 жыл бұрын
Squier definitely sounds better than solar. Tremolo should be blocked with wooden block to fix the tuning issue. You can even try some sort of noiseless singles, like Yngwie

You can't really do it justice if it's brand new, as with most guitars they will not hold tune with new strings, new/different humidity and so on. Squiers often do need a little bit of work like fixing the nut and such, but from then they are great. My Bullet Strat never goes out of tune, despite people saying the tuners are horrible.

I can't speak for the Bullet series, but I have an Affinity Squier Telecaster and I haven't changed the stock tuners and it never goes out of tune!

Serious reply... As I get older and "smarter" I have to audition gear and tones with a basic drum and bass track. Everything chugs when you scoop the mids but in the mix it's pure wombat shit. I rate basic chug potential around everything else.

Next time you should try a higher-end Strat. The single coils sound great, and the higher quality components will add more fullness to the sound (those Squier pickups sounds incredibly thin) as well as improve tuning stability (with the inclusion of better trem units and tuners that aren't complete crap). I'd reccomend the Fender player or Vintera series, or even a squire classic vibr, all of which are very good guitars for the money (mostly under 1k). As for the hum, try a noise gate pedal next time! All the best to you Ola, love the series. Chug on!

To people who say that Stratocasters aren't metal... - Gary Moore's "Nuclear Attack" is played on a Stratocaster. - Darron Malakian used a Stratocaster on System of a Down's first album. - YNGWIE MALMSTEEN! And then there's players like Billy Corgan, Hillel Slovak and John Frusicante who pulled awesome fat sustaining tones out of their Stratocasters. Notice that I didn't mention Iron maiden, that is that they have Humbuckers fitted to their stratocasters. The others used normal single coil pickups in their guitars.

@sammccomiskey58825 жыл бұрын
@Infantryman, Airborne thing is, if you get some decent pickups, tuners, new sustain block for the bridge and a new nut, you'd end up with a solid guitar. Plus you'd be getting a great instrument for less than the price of a new one
@kitoyobeni15 жыл бұрын
@@sammccomiskey5882 I love modding guitars, but at some point you might as well just spend that same amount of upgrade money to get a better guitar. That Squier is still going to have a lesser quality body (cheaper wood) and neck (wood, frets), as well as electronics. I'd rather start with a guitar that only needs a few upgrades rather than the bulk of it.
@bgilley81995 жыл бұрын
@@sammccomiskey5882 these days you can buy a pretty high quality electric guitar for under $400, so why spend a bunch of money to upgrade a subpar instrument, unless you're trying to learn how to repair and upgrade guitars, then it's a good project. Squires are great for beginners, and some models are actually good instruments in their own rights, like some of the vintage squire strats, or some of the Tele or offset models.

Coooool! I’ve still got one of those, my first ever guitar, purchased in 1993. I just went and checked, and sure enough it also has the single coil pickup. It hasn’t been used in years, together with its partner, the HM3 Hyper Metal. Now I think about it, mine was a bit crap at staying in tune, too... not as bad as this, though! It also buzzed like crazy. This video brings back memories.... good and bad! ;)

For a good metal single coil sound, without the noise, use Seymour Duncan hot rails. I use them often, they are basically tiny humbuckers but designed like single coils, so less hum and higher output and still cool, spanky sound.
