The phenomenon of the wood looking different from different angles is due to the woods chatoyance. That's what makes the quilt/flame/curl in woods seem to dance in the light as you move it around.

Hey I just got a guitar to explicitly keep in Standard E, occasionally Drop D Downtuning is fun, but there really is a Simplicity to standard E (plus it makes jamming with others way easier to have a guitar or two in standard, as opposed to my usual Open B or FACGCE)

Favorite guitar shape? Flying v and Star. Both are super polarizing and you'd better be pretty good (and look the part!) to pull them out onstage, otherwise you look pretty ridiculous with them. Functionally though, they are THE best, most comfortable guitars standing up because you have total access to everything and they make you really feel locked-in onstage. Those guitars legit make you feel like you have Daimyo armor on.
