I've had the original Modern 7's and Stephen Carpenter's Sig Fluence 7's for years. And with the Modern 7's I modified my guitar so that I have voice 1/2 Bridge on the volume push pull, voice 1/2 Neck on the tone push pull, voice one low gain neck, neither, bridge and neck on a three way toggle and the coil tap Bridge inner coil, humbucker, coil tap Bridge outer on another 3 way and another three way for the neck coil tap inner coil, humbucker, coil tap outer coil. And that's all accessible from the outside of the guitar with all the switches near the volume and tone controls but not in the way at all. And lastly I have the High Frequency Tilt wired to a three way slider inside the control cavity and it's setup as hf tilt bridge only, neither hf tilt, or both bridge and neck hf tilt. But I don't think the hf tilt is as nessesary with the 7 string pickups. It's more likely that you'd want hf tilt engaged on the regular 6 string pickups which typically have thinner brighter strings etc. But since I had everything else wired I thought I might as well give myself the option to use hf tilt. My point of writing all that was to say, I know a lot of guys get the abasi and Killswitch sign sets for the three voices but you can pretty much get the same thing with the standard Fluence Moderns if you just use the coil tap (sounds like a coil split even if it's technically a coil tap) pads on the back of the pickup. And I will also say that these pickups really need access to all their options, that's what makes them so versatile. Unlike with regular passive pickups where they do one sound and it's a pretty versatile one. With the Fluence Pickups in voice one or two you get very articulate sounds but you need to wire up all the other options to really get all the versatility they can offer which is completely worth it. I think some people who aren't in love with the Moderns (or any other Fluence Pickups) would like them a lot of they tried them with all the options wired up.

For passive humbuckers, if you can wire up a pickup to switch between series and parallel it makes for a passable single-coil(ish) sound without the volume drop. Vola does this on some of their models.
@Mr.Goldbar11 ай бұрын
On the original Fluence Moderns you could actually split them by soldering a few more leads to them and the split worked like actually splitting the pickup. On guitars that had them from Ibanez and Strandberg you could actually have splitted versions of both Voice 1 and 2, which made it even more versatile. So the new system of having it as a completely different voice is more straight forward but more limited

What I read about the Abasi set on the Fishman website was kinda complicated, It suggests they have voice 1, voice 2 and voice 3 single coil. So no ability to have multiple split coil variations of the humbucker voicings. *However* it says that in position 2 of Tosin's preferred wiring, both inner coils are selected but apparently routed through the bridge pickup's pre amp, so you're getting the character of two inner coils in parallel but with the tonality of the bridge's pre-amp. There seemed to be an explanation of why it's done like this in one of Tosin's videos, apparently the single coil voicing of the bridge and neck pickups in his set is very different, one is meant to be more of a Strat sound and the other more of a Tele sound. So I suppose he wants to keep a consistent single coil tonality in position 2 even though it's using coils from both pickups. I believe its the only Fishman set that can do such a thing, but if you can do it on other Fishman pickups (routing a coil from one pickup through another's pre-amp), whether that would have any benefit would depend on how different the pre-amps are voiced. And would also have to consider whether it's worth the additional complexity when there's already a load of choice. I suppose for an artist like Tosin, it makes sense for him as he knows exactly what he wants. It does just show how much Fishman can do with the Fluence tech if they want, I reckon within a few years you'll be able to adjust the pre-amp voicing with an app on your phone or something, perhaps be able to order custom Fluence pickups with your own choice of coil winds and magnets - seen as it's apparently a printed circuit board it must be a lot quicker to manufacture than a boutique hand wound pickup. What you were saying about being able to have voice 1 & 2 and the split versions of those, you can do that on the regular Modern set but most guitar brands don't seem to wire it up. My relatively cheap Cort KX507 lets you do it though, voice 1/2 is chosen with the volume knob and coil split with the tone knob. It's not a huge difference in sound going between voice 1 and 2 when you have the coil split engaged but its noticeable. With this latest version Ola has shown, voice 3 seems more optimised for nice single coil sound. So you go down to 3 sounds per pickup instead of 4, but you get a much nicer sounding single coil sound, just like the signature sets (like your Abasi set).

These are nice. I think I prefer them over most active pickuos. I am very partial to Carvin/Kiesel pickups with the splits and phase switches for this reason. Plus they can be used passively, too. I do tend to like passive pickups more but these hybrid passive pickup types get the best of both worlds. But active pickups work really well in large venues with all the possible frequency interference and background signal noise. I see why so many arena bands use them. I also prefer full range pickups. Equalizing at the source makes little sense. You can't add in what has been taken away at the beginning of your signal chain.

I've heard Fluence pickups drain batteries faster than other actives. Is that true? I know mine drain the battery every few months under 7 to 14 hours of practice a week

It’s good to see dot inlays! I know it’s a taste thing, but if there wasn’t tribal on every guitar that would be a big sell.

I agree, they need to ditch the weird solar inlay

There are the SVART variants that does not have the solar tribal which I am not a fan of either, but then again those do not have any inlays, just side dots.

@@NauEktila the SVART guitars have the Solar tribal at the twelfth fret, it's just that you don't see it that well since it's black.
@alpenjodel2411 ай бұрын
@@NauEktila they have the tribal as well, only in black. actually very visible in reallife lighting.

oh, that is a bummer, and I can see it now, somehow I had missed it on the marketing pictures before. Still I think it is better than the regular white/pearloid one @@nj1255

I just installed these into my LTD deluxe replacing my EMG 707/81-7. Best decision I ever made.

Will all guitars from now on have the new Fishman Moderns? I want to get a Vinter 7, but I have Fishman Modern v1s already, but I really want your Vinter 7 and I want the Fishman Moderns with the Single Coils
@Sihijuoma66711 ай бұрын
Have Classics always had that third voicing? Because I have three voicings in my Classics and thought that Moderns have three also? And it has push-pull volume and tone with 3-way switch.
