As an instructor, you have so much more than guitar playing to offer. Your ability to promote yourself, brand, merchandise, tour, record, write, is beyond just a touring musician.. I’d love to pick your brain on so many levels Do it Do it Do it

Marketing and branding is not music, it's salesman tripe, used by bookies, lawyers, and car salesmen. It's not to be praised. Many talentless goons on social media are FAR more successful at it. Promoting yourself is no harder than having more ego than humility. Again, not to be praised. Now praising talent, performance, and originality is what music is for...unless you think Brittney Spears has is far superior to Ola, by your own standards.

@@kennethc2466 1. It’s called the music business. 2. Every NAMM show has several seminars on music marketing, merchandising, self publishing, etc. and that’s at a show for makers of instruments and stomp boxes… 3. If you’ve ever toured, or even played shows, you understand the importance of marketing, networking, etc. to get info on this from a guy who went from being a guitarist in his apartment to where he’s at now? 4. I’d be willing to guess every one of these camps have musicians asking about how to better their craft as well as their business. Promoting anything takes drive. Takes tenacity. Exactly the same thing it takes to be proficient in ANYTHING. Whether it’s building a house, learning to mix and master, build a wall, plant a garden, paint a picture, or play an instrument. It’s too bad you had to knock my opinion. It just brings into focus the fact that some people get offended at any thought that is not the exact same as their own…

What an _awesome_ moment that was, when JP himself invited you be a guest instructor, then complimented your creativity and ability on guitar. I have noticed that you are quite humble about your own guitar playing, even when a legend like John Petrucci tells you that you are awesome. So. Ola. I'm gonna give John some backup here. There are _so_ many guitarists coming out today who are playing impossible shit by the time they are 7 years old. You got shredders who shred til they're dead, you got True Djentlemen who chug, chugg, chuggify, and finally.... ....the Highest Level. The One True TriChuggulator Of The Pumped Kind Thump! 👁️👀👁️ You, Ola, are all of these, but you are not limited to them or by them. I listen closely to the 'demo songs!' that you always include with your videos, and what I've realized is that you are a much... .... _much_ better guitarist than you get credit for being. Your tone is always badass, with that _ridiculously_ wide & deep frequency response that few guitarists achieve. Because, of course, I just know that you've spent countless hours trying shit out & dialing everything in, in the constant quest for that _GoongaHeavy_ tone from the gravity well of a supermassive black hole! Your tone is one of the few truly murderous Metal Tones I've heard that retains an almost vintage warmth while remaining absolutely modern and thumpy. Your songwriting is excellent; no matter how brutal the track is that you create, there always seem to be loads of harmonic richness and polyphonic chord movement that adds a multidimensional shimmer to even the thrashiest djentrifications and rupturous raptures of distorturous musical torture. Also, bruhh...you can shred. You don't do it often, but when you do, it's very fluid. So. When John Petrucci compliments your playing, it's because he is hearing these things that set your playing style apart from most other metal guitarists. I'm really glad that JP said those things because more people should be paying attention to you as a guitarist, and as a songwriter. 🤜💥🤛🤟🤟🎸

I took my son to a G3 concert in Minneapolis a few years ago, when it was John, Phil Collen, and Joe Satriani. The entire show was great, which was convenient since it was my son's second concert experience. When John played his new "Happy Song" off Terminal Velocity, my son's ears perked up, his whole demeanor changed, and he really got into it. He went from "this is cool" to "OMG THIS SONG IS AMAZING". Thank you, John. Not only for the awesome music (Falling Into Infinity is still my favorite album of yours), but also for allowing me to witness the moment my son got turned onto rock music.

I learned more about Petrucci in this interview than in over 15 years of following his music, though for most it's probably 30 years! This is why we all support Ola because he brings the goods and represents heart and soul too. He used to practice 6 hours a day I think for me this was 5-8 just guitar, now today it's vocals, guitar, and songwriting, but before guys like Vai, Satriani, and Petrucci etc we as a general public had no idea on how to do this or what kind of effort to put in to actually get good results. This interview is great comfort food and congrats on the offer of teaching, I think people will think it's very awesome to just learn the basics about Haunted, SFU, and your solo career songwriting techniques, experiences, etc.

Your nervousness at the beginning, John Petrucci being so down to earth, honest and interested in the discussion you were having and just the whole vibe: it's all so genuine, has very few if any of the sometimes awkward trappings of an actual interview and is a pleasure to watch. Huge congratulations on being invited as an instructor! Whether you do it or not, I think you have a lot to offer in that realm not just as a player, but also as someone who has made so many videos testing gear and dialing in tone and explaining the process, which is such a huge part of playing guitar in general. Your videos have helped me a lot in (finally) dialing in a setup and developing tone settings that make me excited to play and I'm sure that's the case for tons of other of your viewers as well.

What a great interview Ola! And what a nice guy John! You must definitely be teacher on the camp, every guitar player has different talents, and you got different skills than others, you connect to people in so many ways. So happy for you dude, you really deserve all the best! Regards from Spain!

I feel totally and fairly represented by Ola. This is the interview we've all been waiting for, my guitar hero interviewing our guitar hero. No pun intended, but it was a " Once in a lifetime" experience! So proud of you Ola! Cheers from Mexico 🇲🇽

Ola officialy made it to a whole new level, when Petrucci talked about his camp I was thinking come on Ola could be an instructor there and a minute later, there he goes, Ola seemed high on life after that and as a longtime viewer even I felt extremely happy. This interview is the best thing on KZbin right now.

Awesome interview! It’s always a pleasure to hear from John, and you asked him just about everything I would have lol! Congrats on the invite! I had the same reaction when I heard the new recording of Gemini on Terminal Velocity! I loved it ever since I first saw Rock Discipline, and I also had the mp3 of the original back in the day. I was kind out of bummed out that he didn’t record it for Suspended Animation, but the wait was definitely worth it. Loved that you brought up the Petrucci forum too! Along with the Megadeth forum (Total Anarchy!) and Harmony Central, that was my go to message board back in the day.

Favorite parts of this djinterview for me: 1) John inviting Ola to be an instructor at his guitar camp. 2) Ola telling John that he put a poster of him up in the bathroom 😂 I literally LOL’d at that one! Ola I’m sure you won’t read this but if you do, you deserve to be an instructor at John’s camp and it’s not just because of the huge brand you’ve created in the metal community. You legitimately have excellent tone and feel to your playing so you are a more than capable instructor. I know you have never considered yourself a lead player but you definitely are no slouch my friend. Plus, you’ve got one of the coolest dogs in the world. I’m probably going to buy one of your lefty model Solar guitars and get the same type of dog as you….so yeah you’ve really been influencing me a lot lately my friend. Loved the djinterview Ola!

The old Petrucci forum days were special! There was so much knowledge floating around back then. Misha Mansoor, Marshall Harrison, Tom Quayle... Honestly, I've probably forgotten more names that were on there than I remember. There was an amazing Canadian guitarist on there as well, and I can't recall his name but I have his albums on an old computer. I miss those days.

Chris Feener, I suspect it would have been. Definitely worth checking more of his stuff out from after those years. I think Rick Graham was on there as well. Martin Miller, Quayle, Harrison, Mansoor, Andy Wood, Andy James, Chris Brooks, Carl Roa. Good times!

Great video. Love John Petrucci. I personally never write a solo, I practice improv, then I perform in real time. Granted i'm not a famous artist like John , and some sections will always be a MUST want to hear from the audience. I come from a jazz background, so there is that too...hahaha. Excellent interview.
