A college highlight was the Strohs brewery tour. For $5 you got a seat on a sold out bus and all the beer you could drink on the 35 mile trip. Once there you had beer after beer while touring the brewery. Then on to the Strohs Haus for even more beer. Finally back on the bus for ....more beer on the ride back to campus. The ride back was out of control as everyone had drank close to 20 beers each. Then a huge snowball fight in the middle of a busy intersection when we finally got dropped off. That was first and last college tour offered to Strohs.

Beer tasted great before " modern" techniques to brew it in short time. Spring beer was considered a tonic . Remember can openers were called a church key. My dad loved going to the Narragansett brewery on his birthday , free beer for the birthday tour. They limited it to one though.

Schmidt was a cheap beer of choice for some of us back in 1982-83 college days. We called it "Animal Beer" because of the elk, fish, etc. on the can. It was sold in a "sport pack" of 12 cans (half-rack) at my local grocery store for $4.25. So pool funds with a few guys, pickup 2-3 of those bad boys and you're set for an evening of "quarters" (which pre-dates beer-pong). Still don't know how we managed to get drunk on that watery 3.2% piss, but when you're 18 and of limited funds it'll do. ;-)
