Good to be back with another demo, especially when it's a crazy fun pedal like the Excess V2. A killer distortion pedal, 3 killer modulation/delay modes and a ton of ways to route and combine them. The sonic possibilities in this little wonderful box is just staggering. So hold on tight. It's gonna get loud and trippy! As always, thanks for your support. Always means s o much to me. OBNE have done it again, really cool pedal. However your ability to bring the most out of these pedals, to visualize their abilities and functions in a musical context, is the real winner here. Amazing stuff. Thanks!

I realize that this pedal has been out awhile now but OBNE truly has done it again! Conceptually brilliant in that this pedal combines both ibanez session man pedals, the 10 & 20 then gives you more versatility such as added fifths & add’l switching order options. Brilliant playing as usual Stephen & yes as some have already commented the fifths arpeggio playing was stellar! OBNE takes you places the original session men can’t! Leave it to OBNE to find 2 of Ibanez more obscure pedals, combine them into 1 & then add another fifths option on top of that! Genius!

Hey, that's the Pedal Crush book in the background! I have the book, and when I started reading it about a year ago, I didn't know about The Pedal Zone. But I was looking through the book yesterday and there was this guy! Well deserved to feature in the book too, your demos really show what the pedals can do, I haven't seen deep dives like this that were also musically inspiring more often than not on any other channel.

Loved this video so much. I'm truly surprised at how crunchy, saturated, and ripping this distortion is. (And I'm not even a big drive fanatic tbh). The Excess v2 looks like having half a pedal board's worth of sonic capacity in a compact little box. I barely knew what the v1 was before this came out, but now I'm sold. And my favorite thing about your demos: they make me want to pick up my guitar! I'm going from here to right in front of my amps. 🤘

Between this and the Sunlight for my next one. Hmmm…. Also, for an amazing ToneBender, the RambleFX Twin Bender Mk. ii is everything. Based on the OG Sola Sound Tone Benders. Bias and Impedance knobs and a gate for completely silent > immediate wall of distortion. Germanium transistors and all the harmonic OD notes you’ll need.

Great review and versatile pedal. How important is it to use use an effect loop when you add in delay/reverb for your post-rock and ambient sounds? Looks like in some of your videos you are just running straight ino the front of a Fender Deluxe or Princeton.
@thepedalzone2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! very very much! I never use amp fx loops for my wet effects. Always run everything straight into the front of the amp. But the general reason why people use fx loops, is because it bypasses the grit, color and compression of the pre-amp section, which will give you a cleaner delay/reverb effect. If I used amp distortion, then I would place my wet effects in the fx loop, but I only use my amps set 100% clean, and I enjoy the slight color and compression it introduces to run things into the front end.

I started building my first pedalboard in early 2020. I thought I was finished, but I decided that my huge pedalboard will be just a studio board, because it's unreasonable to carry that heavy sh*t around. I've been watching some The Pedal Zone videos lately and I think that there's a real risk that I will have to have about 3-4 Old Blood Noise Endeavours pedals on my board (Dark Star, Excess, Black Fountain, and Haunt), and also very likely the Earthquaker Devices Afterneath. Those will eliminate some distortions and ambience and mod pedals, and I'll be set.
@Planthoarderr Жыл бұрын
If you haven't gotten a Dark Star yet I'd say you absolutely have to pull the trigger on one. I've had mine for a couple months now and I'm still finding new ways to use it. It opens up so many crazy, spacey and ambient doors it really is a must have. Also gives you some really wild synth sounds to boot.
@RJW142 жыл бұрын
Man as awesome as this is it'd be really hard to place in a pedal chain. Sure you can put reverb and delay behind it but what of the other grit boxes that are always on? I don't feel it'd play nice with that.

Well not entirely. V2 has a new modulation mode (pitch-shifted delay), the distortion circuit has been tuned for better low-gain tones and the dirt and modulation sides can now be turned on and off individually. So all in all V2 is a much better product than the V1. So don’t be sad. See this as an opportunity to get the V2. It’s a super rad pedal and was on my Gear of the Year 2022 list 😊👌
