At 5:27, the are large resistors. You need to pull the whole assembly out of the cradle, then you can split the gen. from the engine. Put the meter cover on before the needle assembly gets destroyed. Take resistance check on the started button, it self, and the battery posts.

The two green ceramic cylinders in the control box will be resistors for controlling the field current, so there will be a commutator and brushes as well as slip rings and brushes.

Remember to slightly tapp the rust free around that ring seal sleeve fitted cover shroud. You can use A putty knife scraper tool to split that area with. I highly recommend you using A 🔪 edge one to do that job with to. Norfolk Man cave.

You'll have to take the gauge out to fix it, it might be held in with a "U" shaped clamp on the back but the glass is held in by the bezel which is swaged to the gauge housing. If you don't crimp it a bit round the housing it'll just keep dropping off.

It should only be A seem fitted bent plate that's not welded up in that spot.,or area at all. That's made to tapp off of it. It's seized on there due to rust and moisture over the years of setting. It's most likely rusted into place. Try heating it up slightly with A propane torch then spray some penetrating oil lightly on to those seems let it soak. A bit then tap it that should be the ticket.

If you lift that bent up part of that round cover with A thin shim. Then leave it in there as A wedge sleeve you'll be able to tape it off with A ball pin hammer first spray some penetrating oil around the seem of that area where those broken off screws are at as A 360° degrees circle angle let it soak A bit then try tapping it off.

Hi Adam , I think the generator was built by G&M Power Plant Ipswich In the 1970s . I don't think the end cover is part of the control box.

You say there are 3 tabs on the meter bezel, are there 3 slots on the flanged meter body that line up with them? Line them up when fitting the bezel then rotate the bezel clockwise or counter clockwise to secure it in place. If you have to get the end cover off the generator try loosening the four bolts that hold the box on top of the generator body saddle fashion, then lift it slightly to break the seal of the hardened rubber strip which is between the box and end cover.There may be a similar strip at the engine end of the box.

Try taking your flat screwdriver set it up against the surface and tap the 🪛 screwdriver with the hammer slightly as A separator tool face.,or place the screwdriver tip end onto the other surface allowing to move while tapping it with A ball pin hammer on all side to side and top and bottom as we'll it should release itself then. Yes it will take some time and effort to remove it cause of the smashed in area on it. That makes it really hard to remove those end covers everytime on them to.

If you slacken off the 4 bolts hoding the top box on it looked like a rubber seal between box onhd end cap of generator and i think it should knock off From and in devon

I think so too. The end cap looks like is just held in place by decades worth of grime, that has found its way in the crack and has turned to glue.

Those two round thingies fitted to the front of the box look like wire wound resistors.

You if it has been welded cut that weld loose with A thin cut off wheel in A hand grinder then it should separate off from the front.

That wire box looks like it has four bolts should be easy enough to take off without disturbing owt ? May be worthwhile trying to get at inside check for shite and brushes before you crank it up , those two dodats look like resistors ? .
