Old Bronze Sconce - Restoration - Workshop DC
Hi Guys, how are you doing?
In this video I show you how to restore an old bronze sconce.
Unfortunately I don't know the brand of this wall light or the year of manufacture.
To start dismantling I used only spanners and pliers.
The disassemble was easy but there was a nut that don't come off.
I washed all the pieces because there was a layer of dust, I used only soap and water.
To remove the nut that wouldn't come loose, I put the piece in vinegar for 12 hours, but it ended up breaking.
Despite having broken the thread I managed to remake it with another nut.
Now with the entire piece disassembled I removed the patina that had with hydrochloric acid.
There were some crumpled and bent parts, I just straightened them out.
There were also some casting marks, I removed them all with the file.
After this step I scrubbed all the parts with a steel sponge.
With all the parts ready, I started polishing the parts in two steps.
I applied two coats of varnish so that the piece does not oxidize over time.
I also brushed the nuts and washers.
And everything ready to assemble.
I bought a new glass that was missing, wires and receptacle also new.
I did a little test to see the final result.
I liked it a lot and you?
