Restoration video of a 1956 filmoscope

Today I am restoring a filmoscope, presumably from 1956. As a child, I loved watching filmstrips, so I decided to take on the restoration of this filmoscope. He got me from a subscriber, in very poor condition.
Restoration I started with rust removal for this I used a sandblaster. I painted the cleaned parts with powder paint. To restore the details of their chrome, I used the best thermochrome varnish. I also made a new cover using a lathe and a crucible furnace. In general, now I have a working filmoscope and I can go back to my childhood to watch exciting films.

I nice restoration. On one point I have a notice: You cleaned the iron core sheets very well, but before you reassembled the transformer you forgot to threaten the iron core sheets with a thin very thin layer of polyurethane varnish. Coating one side with polyurethane varnish would be enough, so that everyone is isolated against the other. After reassemble the complete core and tighten its screws, it is suitable to to spend the complete iron core a thicker coating of polyurethane varnish. This procedure prevents the transformer from creating strong humming noise and reduces core losses caused by excessive eddy currents in the transformers iron core.

What? You don't want the core laminations to be isolated, it'll be marginally less effective and an enormous waste of time, if you don't want it to hum it means it isn't compressed and the laminations are vibrating against each other, slightly, this is why they used to have crush fit surrounds and now they are welded together.

This was so amazingly well done. The care and patience, all the different cleaning and re-surfacing techniques, it all comes together with your thoughtful camera placement to make this a real treat to watch and experience. I mean, good lord you even disassembled that transformer to restore it instead of simply replacing it, not to mention fabricating a new insulating screw-on cap?! If that isn't the definition of attention to detail, then I don't know what is. Thanks so much for taking us along for the ride on this one!

are you writing a poem or actually saw the video? there wasn't all that much patience. in 12:19, it clearly shows that small metal part was not even fully sandpapered fully to remove the old reflective layer before the new chrome layer was applied. at 11:20 at the close up of the circular part after being thermochromed, the thermochrome wasn't even coloring all the outer part of the surface area, there are small holes and near the side that wasn't painted fully. those are the only 2 areas i have problem with in this restoration. it's good, but not great.

It was the worst part in this video. He has to isolate ferromagnetic core plates from each other. Without it he can face huge problem with eddy currents...

Absolutely amazing! The only thing I would do differently is reapply lacquer to each piece of the transformer core because without it the efficiency will be decreased and the transformer will severely overheat

Помню в России в Москве раньше в центральном Детском Мире на первом этаже слева от входа был большой отдел диафильмов. Когда ездил туда с родителями,постоянно покупали какую нибудь новую плёнку и по вечерам просматривал через похожий фильмоскоп проецируя изображение на белую дверь в комнате. Было очень интересно.

А я искал пленки как делать самоделки. К примеру схема и объяснения как сделать самому радиоприемник. Его я делал и ходил гордый с ним, потом в лужу уронил , он перестал работать и я потерял к нему интерес.

Отличное восстановление. Стальные листы в сердечниках трансформаторов быстро окисляются от тепла электрической индукции. Единственное, что можно сделать, это закрасить трансформатор при его изготовлении и видимо та краска или лак ушли, для более глубокой защиты можно сделать воронение на каждом листе, иначе наносить краску или лак на весь лист получится лист слишком толстый.

Пластины трансформатора должны быть изолированы друг от друга, они изначально были покрыты лаком или оксидом, это необходимо, чтобы уменьшить токи Фуко , иначе он будет греться ... Я в детстве много трансформаторов мотал....😉
