I love how the Daspletosaurs that show up just stand by and watch the Styracosaurs fight instead of charging staright at them. It really gives off that "calculation of risk" vibe you see in modern carnivores. They come to the fight because they know that there are going to be fatalities, which means they can get food without the risk of getting skewerd.

You would be too if a fight that was supposed to be a dominance fight suddenly turned murderous. Old Buck wasn't just fighting to chase off the rival Buck is old, he's been through enough of them. Letting the rival live was dangerous and likely that rival was dangerous to his herd and siblings. Old Buck likely had enough of the bs and wanted to prove a point. Fight me and you will die painfully. It was probably such a unexpected act of violence its no wonder the carno's were surprised by the attack.

I loved the little details of the old buck. The branches with the petals falling down on him, like the ancient crowds of Rome showering their Gladiator champion with petals. And like the Gladiators, he bears many scars of former combat, the countless battles he has endured to keep his crown. His horn is broken, yet he still wields it as an expert swordsman knows his favourite weapon. Branches and vines drape over his horns, like the ancient crown of leaves given to the victors. Though he is old, he continues to carry himself with a sense of power and grace, a warning to any young newcomer that this is not an opponent you should take lightly, for beware of the old one who lives where so many young souls have perished.

Hence why predators ended up being more intelligent than prey. A predator must find ways to breech a prey's defense or overcome a trait they have. This eventually includes outthinking it, planning ambush or traps. Or logically thinking when not to attack, that its not worth the effort. In all of that. however comes Intelligence more defining trait. Empathy. The ability to feel. That predator reacted in shock

@thatkidwiththehoodie3 жыл бұрын
“The first Daspletosaur arrives to the scene, his acute nose having picked up the scent of blood almost as soon as it was spilled. His siblings are close behind. He does not attack immediately. Any Daspletosaur worth the teeth in its jaws knows to give the Styracosaurs time to settle their differences first. Fights for herd dominance frequently end in severe, even fatal, injuries. Styracosaurs seldom go easy on each other, let alone a foolhardy predator. The Daspletosaurs have, across many hunts prior, learned to anticipate an easy meal once the victor is decided. This tactic is, of course, not entirely reliable, as sometimes both combatants do leave with their lives, but it has proven fruitful enough times before to be worth trying again now. The first Daspletosaur to arrive takes notice of the Old Buck. Usually he would be a prime target, age typically serving to slow and weaken prey, but even from this distance the predator can sense the testosterone coursing through the veteran’s body. This fight, it seems, will be far from predictable, so the Daspletosaur and his siblings bide their time. They trust that, either way, they won’t leave the riverbank hungry…”

Below the hill, the mating season for his kind has begun and a rival male, one with an asymmetrical frill, challenges another, the duller females and their young watching. Noticing the rival, Old buck approaches, interrupting the duel. The two sides clash, with Old Buck having far more experience. The fight intensifies as it draws attention, even to Old Buck's 'rival', an equally scarred Daspletosaurus and his coalition of brothers, the Tyrannosaurs having picked up the smell of blood and sounds of clashing Centrosaurs. *After the fight* The Old Buck has reclaimed his position as the leader of his harem, leaving the loser an easy meal to the Daspletosaurus.

Astonishing!! I totally love how you chose to keep the focus of the episode on the intraspecific combat within the herd of styracosaurs, and left the group of theropods watching the battle as more of a looming threat. A lesser director would choose to have the predators interrupt the fight, and then have both ceratopsians "put aside their differences" to fend them off, but you kept it brutally honest to what would really happen in nature: the predators simply biding their time, waiting for the right moment to steal a kill. The animals weren't anthropomorphized, but they still remained readable and filled with emotion. The battle felt raw and weighty, and that final blow made me literally gasp out loud! So I flagged the barkeep and told him to give the guy another drink on me. I caught up with my friends, only to see that they were stopped by a local asshole and his goons. Trying to pick a fight and such. It got verbal, and was on the verge of getting physical...before the same gentleman I saw at the bar step outside and asked what the problem was. Young asshole basically told him to fuck off, but the old guy was like 'make me then'. Despite being younger, energetic and likely in his prime...the Asshole quickly learned he made a bit mistake when he charged the older gentleman. Only to be laid flat out on his ass. @thatkidwiththehoodie3 жыл бұрын
If anything, large herbivores tend to be more violent than carnivores. Plantlife is a much more common and easier-to-obtain food source than meat, so herbivores can afford to throw their weight around a lot more. An injured carnivore may be prevented from hunting for long enough to starve to death outright, whereas an injured herbivore can kinda just keep grazing. Hence why the majority of animal attacks come from hippos and elephants and the like.
