Perhaps at 6:42 you could lay the peice of pipe lower and lay it on the bottom of the vise to prevent the pipe from moving downwark while you are hammering on it. Nice work.

It is a crude setup for a drill press. If you don't need accuracy and can't afford a cheap one at a yard sale etc. Although I do keep my jacks for other uses.

I liked it right up to the point of seeing the drill wobble and settle into a new position when drilling. Yikes.

I would've drilled a series of holes instead of welding the to the bigger piece of metal where you can change height on it with nuts and bolts the way you got it it's permanently fixed to one position

One of these days I'm going to get a workshop, buy a grinder, a chopsaw and a welder. Learn to weld, accrue a load of scrap iron and build me a Frankenstein's Drill Press just like this one. Until then will have to make do with the shop bought one :o(

I was a happy man until I got married. I didn't throw away old things and always had lotsa fun things to look thru and pick up for odds and ends. Then I married an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and now I can't even keep yesterday's newspaper ! But I do have a wonderful daughter whom I love more than life itself. Guess you lose some to win some !

I would say that would be a completely different project you wouldn't use a car jack to hold up sheetrock but I guess you could.

HMM.! FF to the end and see the result of all the effort... a drill that wobbles, slow to use, awkward (why have the cable sticking out forwards into your face?) And a waste of time imho. Why bother! ? Its ok for a router for example. Set it at one position accurately and its good. But for a drill press? Nah. Nip down and get one from the store. Waste of effort for such poor results. And the music sucks!

DK - music is terrible and annoying.. your smart lift needs a larger wheel to raise/ lower the drill.. base needs to be anchored better, maybe back post is a bit too heavy - the drill mount could use improvement.. thanks for sharing.
