I am LOVING these walks, even though I have to keep checking on Google maps where things are, BTW a lovely local farmer said St James is called the upside down church, using stones from the old one, but the foundation stones are on the top

I know that story although I would take it with the usual pinch of salt. There was actually an intermediate location of the church before it ending up in Pyle

Yes, that's right. My mam told me that it's known as the upside down Church, as it was moved and rebuilt in haste from the sands at old Kenfig and ended up with the top stones underneath and foundation stones on top! I find that so fascinating! My great grandmother Selina Morgan is buried on the left hand side of the footpath by the gate. Her sister Jane 'the Post' shares her grave too.

That was a very nice walk. I notice that a number of Welsh farmers remove the Right of Way signs and break the stiles on paths that cross their land.

I don't think any of these were broken intentionally but not maintained.

Hi, Marcus. As I mentioned in another one of your videos, I have cousins in Pyle and Bridgend. Thought you might like to know that my paternal grandparents are interred in Pyle church yard. Thanks for this video, I will be staying in Porthcawl at the the end of May, and will be trying this walk. Cheers, Tom.

Looks like a pleasant stroll Marcus. I'll try this one, but not sure I can manage the return trip, too. Have to get my lad to pick me up. Thanks! Diolch!
@marcuswalks
@marcuswalks Жыл бұрын
It is quite an easy stroll although the poorly maintained stiles would be too difficult to cross for many which is a shame. A simple gate would work much better.
