I know people are asking for Let Go because it was used in a movie, but if you want something that really uses the soundscape well, and introduces guitar into the mix, as well as just some delicious sounds that come and go during the song in a way that really makes it a compositional masterpiece to me, listen to "Breathe In" - it is nothing short of stunning, the way they use stereo on this one, and build the layers, with her voice, doing multiple tracks, at least 4 or 5 in the last chorus from what I can count, with the guitar, synth bass, other keys, and drums, yet it never feels overloaded. Still feels airy somehow. Then ends beautifully. It is SO worth the listen and reaction. But the whole album is a hidden gem.

GEEEEBZ!!! OMG OMG OMG Imogen Heap, what can I say her music is everything to me. It transcends words and description...but I could talk about her for hours. Her first album I Megaphone (which is an anagram of her name) was definitely her "early period" and had alot of late 90s pop production, almost like a British Alanis Morrisette to my ears. Good stuff, but different. Standout tracks: Getting Scared, Come Here Boy, Oh Me. She then joined/created Frou Frou as a duo with Guy Sigsworth and they recorded only 1 album but it definitely influenced her sound continuing her solo career. Her next album Speak For Yourself contains her biggest song Hide And Seek and was entirely recorded and produced by herself in her home studio with a few guest musicians playing drums or background vocals, and even Jeff Beck played guitar on the song Goodnight And Go. Other standout tracks are Headlock, Clear The Area, and The Moment I Said It which is one of the most emotionally powerful and expertly crafted songs and vocal performances I dare you to try not being covered in chicken skin the whole song. I feel like I'm giving you alot.... Her next 2 albums are very much developments on the sound started with Frou Frou and Speak For Yourself, a few standout tracks Little Bird, Canvas, Bad Body Double, Xizi She Knows, Neglected Space, The Listening Chair (the entire song is composed only of her voice)......and that's just albums she's also released several dope singles but I've already overloaded you and I haven't even watched the video yet hahaha....I get excited, she's such an amazing writer, composer, singer, innovator (google her mimu gloves), and all around unique creative spirit and I'm beyond inspired by her work. Might have to leave another comment after I watch.....alwwriight

If you want a really cool song from Imogen Heap, I recommend "Neglected Space". It's not as popular as some of the other suggestions I see you've gotten ("Hide and Seek" and "Let Go" are the more well-known works), but it's another great example of the layering you point out here.
@jameswhittaker86333 жыл бұрын
What a nice decomposition and what a nice guy! Many thanks for this and I absolutely adore this track and others from the extremely short lived Frou Frou. Frou Frou is a collab between Imogen and a musician she has worked with in the past, and recently they actually did another song together and a small tour for the first time in years. I actually think they make the synths sound quite warm, myself, through the EQ and sound placement choices. And her vocal overload. You REALLY need to react to Cocteau Twins now that I've seen you listen to this and Lush.

Jesus, this song chokes me up and brings tears to my eyes...such incredibly good emotion and movement in this...ugh, it's so beautiful. I struggle to sing along to it because I just choke up. Geebz...please, please, please tell me how I can get you to react to "The Antikythera Mechanism" from an artist called BT. Normally he does dance techno stuff, but on the album this song comes from, "This Binary Universe," he made beautiful instrumental soundscapes. For that album, he invented and built wholly original instruments, tweaked around with his daughter's toys' sound chips and voiceboxes to get strange, unique sounds, composed orchestral music and conducted the orchestra himself, and combined all this with masterful, soothing electronic music, AND it's mastered in incredibly high fidelity with full surround sound. There's just nothing else like it and you absolutely have to hear it. I really, genuinely think it will enrich your life. The only problem is that all the uploads of the album's tracks online are compressed and poor quality, so to get the true experience you'd need to listen to it on CD. I'd be happy to donate whatever you need to order the CD, or I could send you a CD myself, whatever way you prefer I just, please, need you to hear this music and expose your audience to it as well. Please. The CD is available here: www.amazon.com/This-Binary-Universe-Bt/dp/B000G8OZ16
