Just for some extra info Monuments, Tesseract and Periphery are all pretty close. Monuments guitarist(John Browne) and Tesseract guitarist(Acle Kahney) used to be in a band called Fellsilent. Also Monuments ex vocalist(Chris Baretto) used to be in Periphery. There are lots of shows they've done together and also filled in for each other if members had whatever issues. Monuments drummer (Mike Malyan) just recently filled in for Tesseract drummer(Jay Postones) when they did their live stream called Portals. Respect from The UK, 0121! 🤘🏼

Gotta do Vildhjarta - Den Helige Anden. You might lose your mind listening to it. You never get comfortable listening to them. Always keeping you on your toes with the main instruments but bringing very ethereal ambience to create an absolutely huge sound
@samirgolchha3 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see them here, but would really recommend it to be any other Vildhjarta's song tbh. I feel like Den Helige is a filler and not representing this band's composing ability, just feels choppy to me, like a bunch of old riffage (no pun intended 😅). All these feelings or Längstmedån will do, I guess

About the 'separate meter' John Browne (the main driving force behind the writing) really likes Meshuggah and uses one of their signature rhythmical concepts very frequently which is the 4/4 but the riff is an odd-time phrase that just keeps spinning around that 4/4 meter. Yogev Gabay calls this the Host and Guest concept, you can check out his video on the topic in your own time! Great reaction and insight as always 🙂

Love your stuff man! Awesome seeing you do Monuments. To touch on the bit you were talking about with the guitar tone: they actually tend to quad track most of their stuff, as opposed to the more standard hard-panned doubletracking thing many modern metal bands do. The guitarists are just crazy-tight rhythmically and can get away with 4 stacked takes on every part without getting transient flams, and the result is that fat tone and bigger-than-typical stereo field you noticed.

Heck yeah man, was not expecting this one but glad you got to it! The entire album is a masterpiece from start to finish (the cover art is even part of the story it tells), but if you want picks from it to check out next, the tracks I, the Creator and I, the Destroyer really gives you an idea of what's in between them. Also going to plug "Onda" by Jambinai ("Jam", like a jam band) again, in case it got filtered but also because you'll hopefully enjoy them as much as you did these guys.

Holy crap that was so unexpected! They have some bahaha-angers(bangers) I know it's not personal when you can't get to our requests, just always trying to get you back to Caligulas Horse with their song Dream The Dread. It's a nice in between from Slow Violence which you did, a simple radio like single song, and Graves, their 16 minute grand opus. 4:04 ... When I tab a song, I invert one channel and play with the balance, so I can remove most of the center and focus on the (usually wide) guitars. This has worked very well with the 90s/2000s thrash metal I like to play, but this song reacted VERY differently. It's a totally different wall of sound than what I'm used to and requires further investigation. I need baritone guitar. 6:20 ... I think I made a similar face when I distanced myself from the guitars and eventually noticed that cymbal! Probably with a bit more head banging. It kinda annoys me, but I can't deny that it's pretty cool. The funny thing is, I discovered this song through your channel and totally forgot you mentioned this. Having somebody talk about the mix of things is really turning into a learning experience. Thanks for that.

There's so many better songs by BTBAM to deconstruct. Selkies is *okay* until it gets to the end section, where it's just Paul's most uninspired sweeping of their entire discography. In my opinion Selkies is the worst song on Alaska - not a bad song, I just don't understand the hype when almost every single other song they've ever written is more interesting. It's just Dream Theatre Lite when BTBAM is so much more than that, even just on Alaska. Geebz could check out Alaska or Camilla Rhodes from that era of BTBAM - both are way more interesting compositionally.

So someone else already pointed out the fact that Tesseract and Monuments are both linked by the two members that used to be in the same band, but they also both use a similar alternate tuning, AEADEAD or some slight variation on it (Monuments typically do this a half step down, then both bands might drop the low A down a whole tone). Finally set my guitar up in this tuning and it's been interesting playing around with it.
