you gotta check out the live studio 'Of Matter' by Tesseract. Daniel Tompkins (their original, and current singer) rejoined the band after a short hiatus in which they recruited the help of a singer named Ashe O' Hara. Ashe did an amazing job in studio setting, and their album 'Altered State' is their best work (in my opinion). Would be a nice contrast, and the live in Sphere Studio recording of 'Of Matter' is quite amazing. Thanks for checking out TesseracT, one of my favorite bands!

I was one of the ones who annoyed you with Tesseract. Thanks for the content!! What you say about the space, you are totally right! Tesseract doesn't have commonly used structures. It seems they have verses and choruses but they only repeat once. Their songs are a trip. You should watch their live recording of Phoenix live in the studio.

@RyanCogar
@RyanCogar 3 жыл бұрын
The abrupt end to the track is due to it leading into another track; A trait Tesseract is well known for, sometimes having several parts or movements tied together to form a larger cohesive piece. Dan the vocalist here does have a very clean tone but he is fully capable of some grittier vocals. I'm sure you'll get requests for songs from their record "Altered State" featuring a different vocalist Ashe, who was also fantastic. To hear some older Tesseract with Dan before he parted & later returned to the band I'd recommend "Concealing Fate pt.2". A really groove driven track with some more aggressive vocals. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5zMaGRol8xratk Additionally I think you'd really appreciate the group Monuments, who are considered one of the big "djent" bands such as Tesseract/Periphery. Fun fact all 3 bands have actually links with a guitarist each of Monuments & Tesseract once being in a band together & the former vocalist of Monuments was also in Periphery for a short while. My pick for Monuments would be "Mirror Image". It's not their most technical track by any stretch but its's a great introduction to their groovy style & Chris Barretto's fine vocal work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5zMaGRol8xratk Apologies for the huge load of information haha, really enjoying your analysis of these tracks though :)

You hit the nail on the head on "spacing". What makes Meshuggah so incredibly groovy and what sets them apart from their "djent"-prog juniors is exactly this; the way they lay down the quiet moments within the rhythmic chaos is what grounds their songs and makes them so head-bangable.

TesseracT, YES! I'm hyped! This band is mind-blowing, amazingly good and talented. Please do a couple of other songs by them to get their ''full spectrum of music''. They're an insane band that keeps growing, they have no best albums since all of their albums are killers. Btw, about the ending, this song kinda has no ending. It flows over perfectly in the next song, and imo these two tracks belong together. That's why the open ending might've left you a bit unsatisfied.

If I could recommend anything personally for you to check out if you'd like (and there's so much I could), I'd say Nocturne (the full version), Resist, or Proxy. Love Tesseract, but I think their best work is when they abandoned the screaming vocals from their debut album in favor of more melodic vocals on their second album, "Altered State". I think the "Of Matter" and "Of Mind" suite's of music on that album represent their best yet, at least for me. As for recommendations, I'm sticking with Frost, "The Dividing Line". I own thousands of albums from the 60's through the current day and there's not a single album that contains anything quite like Frost. This song represents one of the finest neo-prog songs in existence. So looking forward to you discovering them!

That outro bleeds into the intro of Hexes which is probably my favorite Tesseract song.

Tesseract really stood out for me last year from the crowd of new prog metal bands. I'm nearly 50, but still keep looking for new bands, though I do frequently get back to older bands like Marillion, Rush and early Genesis.

Dan is an amazing vocalist. The whole band is just so locked in. Also that 2nd skyharbor album may be dans best work.

I've noticed that across TesseracT albums, the hi-hat always sounds like it's on the right side. Most music I listen to situates the drums as if you were actually sitting behind the kit, which as a drummer, I love. For me, I just picture a left-handed drumkit setup and it makes sense. But mostly, I think that simple sound reversal does even more to set TesseracT apart from their contemporaries. Truly one of the greatest bands of all time. Edit: Please accept my humble request and make a video for their song "Hexes" - it's the follow-up track to this one. Talk about space...this music is masterfully crafted.

@@GrizzlyAt0ms song gives all the feels when you tie it to whats been going on this year. Pushing to an uncertain future to likely meet our demise, but never look back, keep going.

interesting when you talk about the hi hat being so prominent on the right side, i think whats actually happening is jay (the drummer) is keeping a constant 8th note hi hat pedal chick throughout most of the song and what you're actually hearing is a cymbal stack on the right that has a very quick decaying sound so it sounds similar, but a bit crunchier than an actual hi hat

Just a heads up the end of that song bleeds into the next song. I was so glad to see you reacted to this, TesseracT's talent is unbelievable. As a song writer and musician myself for 30 years I have such an appreciation for it.

You should check out the live studio "Of Matter" by them, and also "Hexes". Also, if you decide to discover some more Tool (who wouldn't), i'd love to see your reaction to "Third Eye" from their album Ænima.

Just discovered the channel and I am really enjoying it. You should check out Veil of Maya - Mikasa, Periphery - The Bad things (really any of their songs) or Trivium - In Waves (or again really any - Trivium are a more traditional band but well composed). They are all great bands. More Polyphia would be great too as their stuff is so interesting!

Good Tiger is a great post-hardcore band, their singer was in Tesseract for a little bit in like 2012 I think. Their second album "We Will All Be Gone" was produced by Adam "Nolly" Getgood of Periphery I believe, who has a pretty popular drum sample set I think (I don't know much about production). I'd recommend the song "Such a Kind Stranger", sweet arrangement / crazy drums, whole album has amazing vocals.
