This was my first Tool song, I heard it on the radio and was so dumbstruck I literally went straight to the record store and bought the album. You got the chicken skin in the same place I did, that "prayin for rain" bridge section has such a melancholy Irish ballad vibe it's just despairingly beautiful in the middle of a prog metal song about death and destruction. there's an old school way of making that pad note without overdubbing , by multitracking yourself live simultaneously. ... splitting the feed and putting effects on one line and no effects or different effects on the other. jimi hendrix did it without effects but anyone else I know of needs processors to get the job done. when I was engineering, I used to love to use unorthodox effects stacked in odd ways to make new sounds.

The delicateness and nuance of Danny's percussive choices in this song always blow me away. I mean really listen to what he's doing from 8:05 on for about 30 seconds. ALso, this is one of Tool's dirge-iest sounding songs, in parts, I love how they transform and emerge from the more straightfoward metal/rock parts into the more ambient, dirge like sections. @@FirstnameLastname-qp4hf He can't get striked because his channel isn't monetized but YT's algorithms pick up the song identification anyway. It will pick it up based on even a few seconds of audio.
