My dad was a GM for the Knoxville Cherokees. Which later moved to Florence SC and became the Peedee Pride. Peedee is a region in the Florence South Carolina area. They named the team using Peedee with hopes of getting more fans from across the area. Some of my fondest childhood memories were watching the Peedee pride play in the Florence civic center. People were always trying to get free tickets from me😂

Very nice post. My favorite ECHL logo was from the Louisiana IceGators - a team that drew solid crowds to the Cajundome in Lafayette. Fun game environment with a raucous crowd to boot. Second choice was the Texas Wildcatters from Beaumont where the opener had the players skate out with flaming hockey sticks. Fire and ice didn’t mix well, leading to a delay of the game for inexperienced ice repairs. Both teams ended operations thanks to hurricanes - Katrina in LA and Ike in TX. Add in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Mobile, Pensacola and Jacksonville and it made for great road trips in the 90s.

1) Louisville IS LITERALLY just a re-coloured version of the Atlanta Hawks logo! 2) It's pronounced "MISS-ticks" and that logo doesn't reflect the team's name either, because a Mystic is like a seer, a wizard, a sage, etc.

Awesome video! I'm from Victoria and remember when they held a contest to choose the name for the new ECHL team. I remember people being shocked that Salmon King won lol. I had seasons tickets for the first 2 years. It was great and a big step up from watching Junior hockey. Unfortunately the team didn't last to long. Most people weren't that familiar with the ECHL and they were marketed pretty poorly. It did get us a nice new stadium downtown and we eventually got a WHL team back in town. Also the first year we had the team was during the04-05 lockout so we got to see Scott Gomez and the Alaska Aces which was pretty cool.

Okay, so I'm a Bakersfield Condors fan, so I saw a few of these logos as a kid before they moved to the AHL, and I forgot how much I loved logos like Fresno, Long Beach, San Francisco, and Alaska. I DESPERATELY wanted Henderson (Vegas's AHL affiliate) to reference the Wranglers in some way, since they're going to be playing in the Orleans Arena, where the Wranglers used to play, while their arena in Henderson is being built. I was also hoping that the Barracuda's pitiful attendance numbers would lead to a revival of either the San Francisco Bulls or the Fresno Falcons. i'd have preferred the Falcons, given the old WCHL and ECHL rivalry between Bakersfield and Fresno, but oh, well. As an aside, I REALLY want Ontario to go back to that logo, even if it would be changed to Kings colors. Also, the Wildcatters name is a reference to the oil industry in Texas. Google's definition of a wildcatter is "a prospector who sinks exploratory oil wells", thus the little oil rig on the guy's hat/helmet. That team, if my memory serves, moved to Ontario to become the Reign (mark 1), who then moved to Manchester when LA, San Jose, Edmonton, Calgary and Anaheim moved their AHL teams west, which bumped Ontario to Manchester, Bakersfield to Norfolk, and Stockton to Adirondack. Manchester has since folded, while Bakersfield uses a variant of their old logo, and the Stockton Thunder logo moved with the team, getting a recoloring from black, gold, and white, to red, gold, and white.
@Oilerator_4 жыл бұрын
Too bad the Alaska Aces had to move just 3 years ago. They moved to Maine and became the Maine Mariners. I have a friend in Alaska and he was a big fan of them, sucks that they moved because Alaska will likely never get another professional hockey team again. Quite expensive to have a team there.

If you ever want to go too an ECHL game, I would suggest an Idaho Steelheads game. Especially if they are playing the Utah Grizzlies. Boise and SLC are hours apart so there is a good rivalry their. Not quite the rivalry of when the Alaska Aces where in the ECHL, those games where more riots waiting to happen than sporting events since the Steelheads and the Aces always seemed to be fighting for the Western division.

I'm not positive about some of these, but I'll give it a go: I believe that the Mobile "Mysticks" is a hockey play on the word "Mystic". The Macon Whoopee. I'm assuming that this a play on the phrase "Makin' Whoopy". Macon is pronounced like bacon with a "M". Birds and the bees, again relating to the name. If you're not familiar with that phrase, ask your parents;-) Maybe they should have been named the Macon Bacon. Yes, the Checkers have had a couple of iterations in Charlotte with the ECHL Checkers ~1993 and the AHL Checkers ~2010. Yes, the Chesapeake Bay can freeze every few years
