I'm surprised you didn't reflect on the derby aspect more. If you chose Practice mode instead of Total Destruction, all the cars do not go for you only, and it's a more fair free-for-all survival. Plus, you can drive in reverse just as quickly as you can forwards, which...quite impressively...the AI do this during derby's when their front ends are too smashed up or their radiators are smoking, in order to survive longer. This adds a nice tactical approach to derby's, spreading out the damage by driving in reverse as well as forwards to survive as long as possible. I usually drive backwards at the start of the derby, so that towards the end I switch to driving forwards (before my rear tires explode preferably) and then target and take out other cars with blown radiators who are trying to drive backwards and save their engine...which is much easier to do facing forwards rather than reverse =P

Never mastered the backwards driving thing, then? I played this game to death and after a while it dawned on me what the true tactic was, to surrender your backside to destruction (no pun there) because your car would never get wrecked unless you damaged the front. So, no back wheels, at a snail pace and banged up to oblivion, it didn't matter, i'd stand as the only driver left among a pile of carnage.

I was one of those children between 3-10 who played that game back when it came out. I was floored by everything it had to offer. It really was my favorite game back then because of all the crazyness. Sadly, the copy I have doesn't work and I'd love to play it again. Also, the music is kick-ass! One of my favorite soundtracks from a band called Jug who are from the UK. They're not around anymore, but at least they're immortalized in this game. Caddy, thank you for making a video for this game. It indeed brought back a lot of memories and had your signature style of comedy that I've come to love from this channel. This was the video that made me click that "subscribe" button. It definitely hasn't failed me yet. Good show, man.

Destruction derby 2 is so much fun, i still own a physical copy and play it more than I'd like to admit. Watching caddy make mistakes, like not knowing the scoring system on wrecking racing and the fact that total destruction mode is basically timed survival and not the normal destruction derby mode, pointed out to me that the game didn't do a great job at explaining what everything is. If you see a copy of this game, grab it, grab it and run. And for the people who are asking about the soundtrack, every song in the game was from a band called JUG.

I own this game, and I absolutely hate it. Owning both an N64 and a PS1, I had access to this game, and a gem called "Destruction Derby 64". That game is like a directly better version of this one. It has a ton of cars, and all of them both look and drive differently, like one car looking like a 60's Jaguar convertible, and another being an AMBULANCE. (excluding the like 10 stock cars that are all just reskins of one another). It has a lot of tracks which all look different and all have interesting layouts. The arena deathmatch modes work very well, because the opposing drivers actually fight amongst each other rather than just swarming you. The racing mode is fun and not "absolutely fucking impossible" like this game's. The car physics are quite good, and when you wreck another racer or wreck yourself, you EXPLODE. Not like the wimpy engine fire in this game. Your car becomes a giant fireball, and it's awesome. DD64 is hands down the best "Destruction Racing" game of its era. DD2 sucks.
