I named my beautiful black Labrador after this very performance. Sadly my beautiful boy died at the age of 1. This song is very special to me. Please never remove it from KZbin.

His banjo technique is amazing. He is doing so many things at once that it boggles my mind. I don't know if I've ever seen his equal.

He's simultaneously using like three different standard techniques and smashing them together. I'm genuinely in awe as to how well he's able to do it.

I'd say he's pretty incredible at making the drop thumb seem so effortless and he throws in those long brushstrokes while keeping perfect time. Not to mention he's playing a fretless banjo while singing. Really just a master of putting it all together if ya know what I mean@@extremenatureandfriends

I know right?! It's honestly amazing. Anyone who's played the banjo would know that what he's doing is no small feat by any measure. It's like he's unlocked the true potential of folk banjo. Dude's a legend!
@Greencheez-y11 ай бұрын
@@extremenatureandfriendshaha well you can let your *friend* know that the main technique he's using is a folk style that goes by many names called clawhammer/frailing/overhand style. But he is also using a technique within that style with his strumming hand called drop-thumbing as well as a lot of pull-offs and trills with his fretting hand. In another video I just saw before this one, he was also doing a 3-finger folk style towards the end of the song. Hope this helps!

I discovered this when I was dealing with some emotions - in fact I didn't realize I was working through something until I heard this and almost broke down because it was so simultaneously sad and beautiful. I listened to this every single day for over a month, and usually at least twice daily. All I can say is "Thank you" to Jerron Paxton, you helped me get through where I was so I could move on to where I needed to be. I still listen to this video on a regular basis. I'm not a spiritual person, but regular maintenance of the soul is important, however you interpret the world.
