Boiled peanuts are crazy addicting. Especially spicy ones.

I use a similar method. Down here, we have green peanuts and I use about a cup of salt with mine. For the Cajun peanuts, use the crab boil packets. They're amazing! Now I want peanuts haha

A nice reminder of the time I spent in South Carolina after I retired from USAF. Boiled peanuts are addictive! - ya can't eat just a few 🤠

I put a couple of dried Chipotle whole peppers with the salt and it gives them a nice smokey and mild kick to them.

🥜 personally prefer just roasted and unsalted myself. It's all about community for me though. Eating peanuts while sitting at a campfire and chatting. Tossing the shells in the fire and having an adult beverage or two. ✌️🇺🇸

I used to see a bunch of places selling these around where I lived in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. Unfortunately, I never tried them, and now I live in NYC and I've never seen them here. Also, if I want Chicago foods, I have to order them online.

I live in Minnesota and I’ve been eating green peanuts for years. I buy them at the Farmers Market every summer and grow a batch myself when I get the urge. Your bag of peanuts there have obviously been pre-washed. The ones we get here still have plenty of dirt on them and have to be washed about a half dozen times. When they’re green like that they boil up nice and soft in 3 or 4 hours. I put in salt and Chinese 5-spice powder. Delicious!

The only time I ever heard of these is because John Madden had them at the football game. He used to throw them at people in the crowd from his booth.

Instead of fully biting the ends off just crack the shell with your teeth and suck the juice out. Been doing that since I was little.

Used to living in the south for a decade boy I miss boiled peanuts. I don't understand why they are not popular in North. I remember driving on country roads and just coming by 55 gallon drums boiling away and stopping. Hard to find raw peanuts for me but I am going to keep looking or just buy online I guess. how are green peanuts different than raw? I thought they were same thing.
@GreatLakesPrepping4 ай бұрын
Green peanuts are raw peanuts that have been recently picked. They haven't been dried out like "raw" peanuts, and still have all their original moisture content (which means they don't need to be boiled as long).

Southerner here. Thank you for sharing this bit of culture. Raw and Green are interchangable words for uncooked and unseasoned peanuts. I didn't know if that was a joke at the beginning, so I felt like saying so. Cheers!

I was raised in Georgia where everyone eats boiled peanuts. I'm 78 and back when I was young the peanuts tasted better and were physically smaller. Peanuts have been bioengineered and now I almost never eat them. Oh, green boiled peanuts are much better than dry boiled ones.
@mmasque20524 ай бұрын
It’s not bioengineering, it’s selective breeding and it’s been going on for centuries.

I am sad for folks who have never had boiled green peanuts. They are harder to get now than they used to be. I cannot imagine how dried ones like that are.

I'll let you know that most people don't use Zatarain's for almost anything unless they're getting their stuff from walmart, Tony's is probably the biggest one, but there's also Slap Ya Mama, and a bunch of small brands that are better that are available too
@mmasque20524 ай бұрын
McCormick’s owns Zatarain’s. Has for several years now. Old Bay, too.
