Big Lew...I grew up around Dothan Alabama...when I was there we had a HUGE HUGE HUGE HOUSTON CO. PEANUT FESTIVAL/COUNTY FAIR usually between every Oct/Nov... Every year major country stars come to perform at the festival.... It's still regarded as the largest Peanut Festival in the south. Every kind of boiled peanut imaginable...the best one I had a few years ago was some garlic & green onion boiled peanut. Dothan also holds a Watermelon Festival every June or July. Awesome times & memories of my childhood!!! THERE AIN'T NOTHING LIKE SALTY COUNTRY CAVIAR!!!

@BigLewBBQ

Why not?
@Vector_Ze
@Vector_Ze Жыл бұрын
@@BigLewBBQ For a couple of reasons. Most importantly might be that most people who want to boil peanuts don't have a commercial sized rig like you're using in this video. Then, there's the price. I was happy today to see green peanuts at my grocery store, and bought a 3.5 pound bag for $4.77. That will likely last me a week. At the same price point, a 25 pound bag would cost $34, which is quite a bit for snacks (IMO). I wish green peanuts were available year around, sadly that's not the case. I read that green peanuts shouldn't be frozen before they're boiled, and I wish I knew what the reason for that is. I'd like to stock the freezer while they're in season.

Stone Mountain BBQ Thanks for watching Hagar! You can add what ever spices you like to the pot. My daughter likes the spicy ones too. I also eat the spicy ones as I generally like spicy foods. However, I grew up with just salted ones. The spices tend to mask the wonderful peanut flavor. Sometimes, less is more, and that is how I feel with boiled peanuts, they are best just salted. I feel the same way about roasted peanuts too. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for taking time to watch.

Lasse's Food and Barbecue I'm sorry you missed the opportunity to eat them while in Alabama. They are quite common there. Yes you can boil the raw dried ones. The Spanish Valencia style ones work real well. Just let them soak in plain water for 12-24 hours first. You may also need to boil them for 3- 4 hours and let them soak 1-2 hours. You would probably need about 250 ml of salt for 4 kg of peanuts.
