Күн бұрын

Welcome to the show! Dan and I have been asked for this a lot. Could we revisit some of the stuff we gushed over in years gone by, plug it in again, give it a schwang and see if it still holds up?
That’s exactly what we’re doing today with a handful of pedals that slipped a metaphorical mento in to our bottle of Coke back in the day.
What about today - are we still fizzy? Let’s find out…
Please enjoy the show!

This was nostalgic viewing. I have to be honest...no ones fault, but I have been finding this channel a little less enjoyable over the past year or so. I've been watching for about 6 years and it's possible I'm just mentally done with gear to this level (for now) but I have not found too many episodes capturing my interest. This was a smart idea for a video. Throw back. Great call.

My goodness, that outro with all the pedals on was something else! Goosebumps throughout! It's peak TPS, in the sense that it highlights how pedals can help create otherwordly soundscapes, paired with Dan's tasteful and incredible playing. The man sure knows how to tailor his playing according to what effects and being used. Bravo!

Great idea for a show. Here are some other random ideas for future shows: 1. You have to do a gig/performance with the other person’s current full rig (amp/guitar/pedalboard) and then reflect on what you took away from that 2. The pros and cons of switchers (cost vs board size vs harder to change out vs signal path vs buffers always being in chains etc) 3. Weight challenge - come up with a full rig that you could travel abroad with safely and be under a certain weight restriction

As someone who’s been watching you guys since the very beginning in 2015, this episode is sooo sentimental. Would be cool to see Dan’s hampstead amp again, Mick’s lonestar some more. But the return of Blue is special I hope Mick can find the right pickups for it because it’s a shame that such a great guitar has become secondary You guys are the best!
@ThatPedalShow
@ThatPedalShow Жыл бұрын
Hey Sam, thanks for this. No pickups are going to save Blue. I've been through the mill with it and it's just time to move it on or retire it. Would be interesting to get a psychotherapist on it, but I've built up an aversion to it to the point where it actually triggers PTSD type symptoms now. It's sooooo weird, and so out of kilter for the rest of my brain. My collective pain body used to pour towards other humans. Now it's directed solely at this poor guitar. Hahahahaha!

@@ThatPedalShowthat’s terrible! I’m sorry that it’s become a source of pain. It could be an interesting philosophical episode, if it isn’t too triggering to make. @@ThatPedalShowIt’s interesting listening to this episode. Blue has a sound to it that different pickups change a bit, but the core sound is always there. I don’t know how many different pickups we’ve heard in it (is it seven?) but the character of the guitar is always there. I don’t think I realized it until this episode because it sounds like the old episodes. Then Dan plays or Mick picks up the Les Paul and it sounds like the new shows.

Mick, I need to thank you - I found a Tru-Fi Colordriver back in the day, on your recommendation, and I have still never heard a "small amp cranked" pedal that gets anywhere near it. Warms, sculpts, crunches, detonates, and I wanted to give you & Dan word of a little trick I discovered. If you run a treble booster like the Beano Boost with its gain very high into the front of the Colordriver, the CD's transistor will start gating, and depending on what frequency range you've selected for the Beano Boost, the CD will become this broken, square-wavy, staccato coil of notes, uncannily like a Middle Eastern reed/wind instrument - shawm, mizmar, zurna, they're all in there. I seem to remember it working best with the CD's Drive a bit below noon and the Beano Boost at high gain + upper switch position for extra midrange. I dunno if you'll *like* it - I love it - but it's not a sound you'll forget soon!

I got a Hartman a couple years ago after remembering it sounding fantastic on the show, it’s really nice to see it featured again! I was really surprised to hear how different those two units sound! Dan’s has more resonance on tap and is generally brighter sounding,. Looks like I need to open mine up to adjust some trimpots to make it as good as Dans haha!

That tape machine thing! I don't understand why the Replicator is not more popular. I can easily hear the difference between tape and digital. But I understand, digital echo pedals do sooooo much more. Tape is more inspiring to creativity though. For me that is.

Thanks for going with my suggestion. Another cool episode. We all love exploring new pedals but sometimes we have the noise we strive for lurking in a box or cupboard. Also, Mick's point about being second Han pedal is very valid. One final point, what is the collective noun for effects pedals?

I purchased the carpe diem when there was a that pedal show version. It stacks very well with other ODs. I tend to run a Klon style pedal in an always on capacity for edge of breakup. When you put the carpe diem on after it gives you everything you could want out of a Marshall.

I have a "Muffroom" cloud, but I don't believe it to be the TPS version, just one of that later ones before the rename. I don't know that I've ever heard mine sound as glorious as yours, but what a great pedal. A proper clouding of ones judgement!!!

just dug my carpe diem out after listening to this and it sounds amazing through my suhr badger 30 set fairly clean. Cheapo tape echo episode? I've an old watkins copicat that was retired in 1983 when I bought an Ibanez 1000HD, will send it to you if you want to plumb the depths. It works and I have spare tapes. My Mrs is still asking if you are doing anymore gigs. Witney was amazing, one of the best nights ever. More please! Love seeing/hearing red and blue again. Put Dan Mare supersports in my tele in the hope I would like it, I do kind of but I'm with Mick. Strats always, they sing (well they would if I could play them!).

A future show idea maybe? Small amps (vintage or modern it doesn't really matter): Gibson GA-5, Fender Princeton, and so on Subject: how to record, do they take pedals well, can they sit in a band context and so on P.S: i'm obsessed with my Gibson GA-5 1958 blonde, i run it at 2 o'clock (that's where everything sounds perfect right Mick? hahahaha) push it even more with my tc electronic mojo mojo OD and also i have a Boss DD3 and a Boss chorus

Awesome old times vibe show! Once upon a time, I built my entire, and obviously somewhat unreasonable, home studio Swiss army knife pedalboard, with 27 pedals, most of them presented to me by TPS. It is funny, because nowadays some of the fancy pedals featured in the show are basically worth my entire board, LOL! It might be true that it now mostly feels a lot like "That Expansive Pedal Show", but guess what.... The show is even nicer, with a much wider theme spectrum, great interviews, and a hole lot of useful knowledge and entertainment, with an audience reaching basically everybody, from the bedroom guitarist to the modern day guitar hero and world class star. It is an amazing did! You guys are not only impressive musicians, but worldwide recognized communicators. Cheers!!

Absolutely loved this trip down memory lane! When you featured the Muffroom Cloud and the Carpe Diem first time around I instantly fell in love and they've stayed on the board ever since. I've been thinking about a flanger for the board for a while and that Hartman one sounds amazing... So much so I've just found one over in Dublin and had to make the acquisition... Stunning! That Planetarium.... Wow! I might have to make some enquiries on that one... Once again, you've knocked it out of the park sonically, video editing wise and whilst we're all a little bit older, these episodes never fail to put a smile on my face (but not my wife's or bank manager's when the courier arrives with another delivery 📦 🫣). Keep up the great work D&M and all at TPS!

Oh, I am like so many in this comment section: taken back to the day where this all began. I was far away from my rack days and was doing my best "in the box" with the sims and all. . . and lots of it was still very good. But, you both showed up right at the kairos moment (the perfect time, more or less) as I got started rediscovering real amps and legit pedals. You and this community changed my life. It's about way more than gear, but I do very much love how it is exactly about gear! LOL. Love, Love and more Love to you all!
