The manufacturer may have made it as a tool but it exudes a magnificence.

When I use wood for a handle I always make sure that the tang is super clean and I cut grooves along the edges. Gives the epoxy more to grab on to. Beautiful job though.

Too many times people restoring old knives try to "dress" them up by adding shiny brass or fancy scales and it just doesn't work. You've done an outstanding job keeping this a little rustic and it looks fantastic!

Lovely blade...looks Tolkien-ish with the "strange" writing/engraving mid blade. Definately worth the effort. Well done.

Thanks! Indeed it looks like that! Actually the writing is Finnish and says "Lapin puukkotehdas Rovaniemi". Translated to English it means Lapland knifefactory Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi is city in Finland near arctic circle.

You have worked hard on this old piece. If you like it that way that is what counts but it shouted personality before. Now it is a movie star. Before it worked hard and had adventures that movies are made of. Sorry. I am one of those old coots who has romantic notions and is sentimental about old "personalized " knives, but now, this blade can have new adventures, hopefully not from a shelf on the wall. I hand forge rustic knives with mineral coal. I use a hole in the ground for my forge and I appreciate the work you put into this beautiful knife.

Many puukko and leuku knives look like bowi ... I wonder if this shape was popular before it was popular in the west? Maybe some European influences in the United States ....
@ReasonAboveEverything Жыл бұрын
This isn't a typical big lapish blade but there are more than one examples. This kind of blade shape was very popular in medieval Europe.

Never seen one Bowie style….. I’ve made three, stacked walnut and leather, definitely not traditional, lol I was just laughing this morning cuz I’m probably the only one on earth that has a kbar puukko, not gonna lie the Finnish blades are the sharpest I’ve ever seen, it’s like soft and brittle hard at the same time but strong, gets real sharp but dulls a bit quicker, I know mine are gona be ice picks by the time I’m an old man
