Check out good old NFS Porsche Unleashed (or Porsche 2000) in 4K resolution!
This epic NFS game still looks quite cool after so many years! The cars control very nice since it's a mix of sim-cade. Cool graphics effects such as the tailights reflection on the wet road are present! And the car models are well made considering it's a game released in 2000! This was and still is a magnificent NFS title!
The game had much attention from the developers. Beautiful tracks, cool looking cars, interior camera with decent interior design for all Porsche cars. Even the sound is fantastic! everything sounds as it should sound. Then you can hear the gear shift, every small rubble when you pass over it, different engine sound for every camera mode! Gotta love those interior sounds! calm and nice hearing the engine roar from the luxurious inside of a Porsche. The sound design is truly great.
Way ahead of it's time IMO. A great NFS title!

I actually always thought the steering was too weak. But that's about the only flaw I can think of. The game is still a masterpiece regardless of that and it's also the game that got me into gaming back when I was 5 years old or so. The atmosphere, different maps, Porsche encyclopedia basically in the game, music, even vehicle upgrades. They don't make games like that anymore, everything is about numbers, but no passion.

I remember being stuck in factory driver mode on a mission where you had to do a 360 spin in I think it was a 911 GT or something? Just couldn’t get it to work, god I wish I still had the game and it would work on a modern PC.

Not to be that guy, but I finished the game at least 7 times, evolution (all cars you could own from the '50's to the '00's and 18 mill to spare, factory driver was difficult but fair. Loved the driving mechanics and the customizable aspect of the cars. Amazing game, love Porsche's now because of that experience when I was a child.

@@zerotofifty what I remember is track tire make you faster on road and more grip but slower off-road. you can do the same with nfs 2015 but the problem is the drift gives you boost so you will be slower with grip, it needed some refining it felt rushed or unfinished.

I remember the most difficult part of this was some of the factory challenges. The 360 degree turn took me a month to figure out. Ofc good old Dylan,Paraise,Steele,Stephane and Rogue were tough competitors as well

OMG i just opened one of my drawers and found this game 18 years later - wow, good memories. I hated the NFS games but Need For Speed : Porsche Unleashed is the best racing game ever. Every car sounded, handled and performed differently. It felt so realistic with the damage and upgrades...i loved the visuals, beautiful maps and the soundtrack. I was euphoric with every manual gear change. Feeling very nostalgic right now. They should make a new one, i'd play it again.

Most Wanted 2005 is not even the best NFS made by Black Box (that would be either Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2, or Carbon). At least I admit that it's the only one of the three NFS made by Black Box that does not suck (the two Underground games and Undercover are a disaster, while The Run was forgettable and ProStreet was a poorly executed good idea). Porsche Unleashed is the best NFS ever, followed closely by High Stakes. Nothing gets near them.

This used to be "PC's Gran Turismo" and in my opinion is actually better when it comes to physics, tracks and graphics. Too bad all the other NFS games are pure arcade racers and dropped the sim aspect completely (except for "Shift", which was not too good imo).

This was my least favorite NFS game when I was a kid though. Sim's might appeal to some, but most people prefer arcade racers, and game developers want to make money. NFS 2 was my favorite, the cars were exciting and varied, the maps were exotic, you could play split screen with your brothers.

Most of my friends didn't like it either when it came out. They said "it's shit, there's nothing but Porsche". They didn't like the physics either. I loved it from the start. It was quite challenging initially, but once you get the hang of it, it's so much joy to weave your line through those bends and around obstacles. I couldn't enjoy any other NFS title since. Well, the first Underground was fun, but infuriating with its randomness and way to arcadey. Now I'm getting into modern PC racing sims after not playing racing games for a while, hoping to get the same feeling once I develop my skills enough.

This is undoubtedly the most played car game in my house. I still play it like for once every two years (from the beginning, of course). Yeah - some other Need For Speed games are pretty good but not in the same manner. I wish there had been or was (not too late!!) more to this series - I even wrote a couple of e-mails to EA to go and expand the series into Mercedes and Ferrari (I think - this was of course more than 15 years ago). Now a Porsche Unleashed 2 would be kind of a dream came true. I can't believe it's almost a 20-year-old game! (and s**t - I'm twice as old). I remember how my friend's computer far outranked mine and I had to keep the graphics almost at the minimum to run this at a decent fps (like 15 or such :D). Oh the memories. Glad I clicked for this (just watched a 911 documentary and this was featured from a featured from a featured... from a featured... and so on).

What a pc configuration did you have? Pentium 1? This game played smoothly with all settings on max on Celeron 600 with 64 MB ram plus Nvidia tnt 2 vanta 16 MB. My neighbour had a Celeron 533 with 8 MB vanta and 32 MB Ram. Never had an issue too. Well optimised game. One of the first 32 bit support integrated.

Thank you for playing my favorite race track featured at the 12 minute mark. I used to spend HOURS playing that track, loving that it was the longest race track of my life. I miss old semi-sim/arcade racing games. Those pre-open world ones: NFS, Burnout. The tracks were literally set among usual roads (no constant signs here and there showing where to drive and basically cutting the track out of the surroundings), shortcuts here and there (some had to be found which added an exploration element to each track), alternate routes, more attention to design of each single track (and it even did not have to be a copy of RL one to be great). Just watching this video understands what was lost in the process of evolution of racing genre

For context why this game exists: this was a very big deal back in the day Electronic Arts Canada (now known as EA Vancouver) was entrusted with the prestigious *PORSCHE* licence making this the first-ever racing game to feature Porsches cars, prior to this you had Porsche look likes that couldn't use the Porsche licence. For example, that's why you see the RUF clones of the 911 in Gran Turismo & Gran Turismo 2 not Porsches original.

Not only that but it was the first game in my life where, when I heard about steering wheels for PCs I thought "no way, this can get better?" This is what I miss, this is what I want: a simlike racer with an emphasis on a fun single player campaign. Make it immersive. Make it just accessible enough, but without losing that authentic feel of a sim. Frankly arcade physics hurt my brain, they are *wrong* and belong nowhere near official car licenses like this. That's why the PC version, to me, is one of the greatest racing games ever made. It struck the right balance. The cars felt real. Hook up a wheel and pedals, use cabin view, it's the closest I've ever felt a video game come to emulating the feeling of ripping up a back road in a sports car. The fact that it doesn't just give you assets to play with, but offers a compelling, progressive challenge is what sets it apart from a strict sim.

Thank you for sharing this! I got this game as a kid even though I didn't know what a Porsche was; I was bummed out when I realized that's the only kind of car that was featured. However once I started playing I simply fell in love with it, the controls were so tight (mouse & keyboard), and the graphics were awesome....I used to look at this game the way that people nowadays look at Forza on max settings. I got to learn more about this Porsche and had hours of fun on this game, I might have to pick it up again!

This is more of a drive simulation, with Porsche cars, rather than an arcade racer. - There's actual physical damage of the car model when you hit objects, both to car exterior and performance wise. You can turn it off/on from the game settings. - The handling physics are 1:1 to simulation. Weigh transfer, suspension forces, traction, weight and friction. Everything. I'm not joking. The game is not arcade-y in terms of handling. - Working interriors of all the cars: speedomter/tachometer gauges & steering wheel are functional. - The entire production line of Porsche cars - Absolutely every single Porsche car released from the factory is available in the game, up until the date of the game's release. You start the career by racing in the 1st Porsche. That tiny little one that looks and sounds like a beetle. - There's a separate "Factory Driver" campaign (besides the regular one where you just race all the Porsches from 1950 to 2003), where you're going through a story of a Porsche Factory Test Driver. It has very unique and challenging missions. Most of them are not even races but rather do these tricks on this track in this particular order in less than x amount of time. Very demanding tbh. - One of the best graphics and soundtracks for it's time. Released in 2000. Gamestop gave it a (PC) 8.9/10 in 2000 review. Just got this working again on my WIndows 10 PC after the last major update, use nglide wrapper and use the registry values for it and it works absolute brilliant, I am 63 and played 21 years ago and still love it :D

Any way you can share where you downloaded the game from? I'm trying to find a reliable/legitimate source for this game. Don't wanna download a 200MB virus lol. One of the best NFS games made in physics (maybe the best). It was specially prepared for Porshe and the sounds of all vehicles were transmitted exactly with real vehicles. I played this game for months as a child.

It's so cool seeing all these cars and tracks again after nearly 20 years now. I remember spending hours just looking at all the beautiful cars in the garage or driving around casually at Normandie or Cote a Zur, with traffic on sitting in a nice 356b (you could even use blinkers!) Interesting though how the car models look fairly dated now, compared to my memory of them being all sleek and stuff. The overall feel still looks pretty decent however. Scenes like coming out of the tunnel at 3:24 just look right. The only thing that always bothered me was that the scaling between tracks and cars seemed very off on most tracks, resulting in the roads just being ridiculously wide for the most part. However, I have to say thank you for the long and detailed and long video, I would've probably never seen it again otherwise. My copy of it is long gone and I remember the game not working properly even on XP.

I am a BIG fan of racing games and a BIG fan of Porsche so when I was a kid this game was everything for me. When my mum allowed me to play for an hour every friday and saturday I was so freakin' happy I could play this game. Thx for reminding me of this masterpiece I'm gonna definitely at least try to find it and then download it. Fun Fact: I played it in like 2008 or 2009 maybe and then graphically it seemed to me like I was playing reality. Back then I didn't know that such games like Far Cry 2 or CoD MW2 existed.

This game was incredible. I was lucky enough to drive it as a 14 year old on a Momo FFB wheel and spent hours on it. The career progression through time was something nobody has done since.

Anybody else remember the bug where you could buy damaged/wrecked cars on the car market in career mode, repair and resell them with quite some profit? Legendary!

The graphics in this game those time were unbelievable.... When I played this game in my PC in 2001, I got blown away by graphics..... This was my Fav NFS until NFS underground Arrived....
