Alan Wake 2 is a survival horror game. Poets play a fictional band called Old Gods of Asgard in the Alan Wake games. This was their first time performing as Old Gods Of Asgard in a live setting. They've been working with Remedy Entertainment since Remedy's game Max Payne 2. Marko is very good friends with the creative director of Remedy, Sam Lake. Basically, we wouldn't have Poets Of The Fall, if not for them collaborating with Sam to turn his poem into the credits song "Late Goodbye" for Max Payne 2.

This version of the song is essentially a radio edit. The full version is 9 minutes long and has a few different styles. I'd recommend looking up the fictional band Old Gods of Asgard because there's several songs under that name. They released an album called Rebirth recently that has 9 songs they made for various games under their alter egos.

The full version of the song is like 25 minutes long but nobody has been able to extract the stems yet to actually piece it together.

The man dancing in the middle, smiling all the time is Sami Järvi a.k.a. Sam Lake (järvi is the Finnish for lake). He is the creative director of Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish gaming company. I'm no videogamer, but for those who play Alan Wake, seeing this video is next level fun. I've watched several reactions by gamers, and they are laughing and smiling and commenting all the time.

Alan Wake II being so well received and resulting in Sam Lake dancing on stage at the game awards because he happened to cast himself as one of the main characters must be amazing. Dude is having the time of his life.

Same Lake was also the Max Payne in the first two Max Payne games

Alan Wake 2 won three awards(Best -Narrative, -Direction and -Art) and was nominated for more including music, game of the year and I'm pretty sure female lead was nominated as well.

Just FYI the Alan Wake games are about a writer whose creepy stories warp reality because he’s sort of possessed by a dark version of himself called Scratch who is rewriting his stories for unspecified dark purposes, and he has to find the pages of the story he didn’t write to try and fix them to stop Scratch’s plan. The band the Old Gods of Asgard in the game as well and are loosely connected to the story as they are relatives of the other protagonist of Alan Wake II, an FBI agent called Saga Anderson, whose story is being written and changed by Wake and Scratch. The song heavily references events from the game and this song (in fact this entire performance) takes place inside Alan Wake II, in the dark version of reality where Alan is trapped - Warlin Door is the host of a fictional talk show that Alan Wake is endlessly being interviewed on, and the song happens on that show. Because the game plays with the idea of not knowing what is real and what is fiction, it’s really fun that they performed this song and the accompanying performance live! The two men singing are the actors for Warlin and the voice actor for Alan, while the version of Alan on stage is the actor who played Alan in the live action footage in the game as well. That was probably all very confusing, but so is the game.

They have been making music for a Finnish game company Remedy Entertainment for two decades, during which their music has ended up on Max Payne 2, Control and three Alan Wake games. Not knowing about games is no reason for embarrassment-not even all those working on them know about games. Like Finnish actor Martti Suosalo here, who won the British film, games and TV award BAFTA for his supporting role as the janitor Ahti in the game Control. He didn't know what BAFTA award was either. They had him sing a Finnish tango for the game. Ahti character appears also on Alan Wake 2. Here are four videos of Suosalo's adventure into the world of games: "Control: Martti Suosalo (Ahti) - Sankarin Tango (Hero's Tango) Live Performance", "OST Control - Sankarin Tango (English Subs) - Music Video", "Control - Welcome to the Oldest House: Jesse Faden Meets Ahti The Janitor Dialogue Cutscene" and "Martti Suosalo Wins Performer in a Supporting Role | BAFTA Games Awards 2020". The tango was also performed in the game awards: "The Game Awards 2019 Orchestra - Game of the Year Medley". A short Finnish game music medley: "FINNISH Game Music Medley (2020)". Maybe this will open the door more for you into the world of game music: "Tapiola Sinfonietta, led by Santtu-Matias Rouvali, plays Clash of Clans".

Marko is such a good singer! I love his voice!! I love the song The Poet and the Muse from the Old Gods of Asgard. It's from the first Alan Wake game. The guy with the long dark hair dancing is the main character. Then the blond guy who came dancing at the end, is the creative director of Remedy, which is the game studio behind this game. And Remedy is also a Finnish game studio.

That was a truncated version of the song for performance sake... the following is the full song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6nWkHuPrMSggs0 There's other songs on their 'old gods' channel as well. Although it's currently missing Take Control, which is a song the Poets did (as the Old Gods) for the game called Control.

Thanks, Great Reaction again - in my previous video comment of this Game Awards performance, I forgot to list also Max Payne 1 & 2 where POTF also perform songs/music. But like said, now 100 Million online viewers know of the OGOA/POTF existence, so hopefully that drives more fame & success to the band!

Haven't gotten this song outta my head since their performance that night, same for Sam Lake's goofy dance. Down the Old Gods rabbit hole y'all go though, fair warning that most of their songs are 10+ minutes long (this is a trimmed down version) so be ready to settle in if y'all do watch more. My suggestion for next would be Take Control, great song, good bit heavier than this or Poets other music.

Watch the official music video of Herald Of Darkness by Old Gods of Asgard. It’s the Poets of the Fall and the actors singing. The music video shows only the stuff that you see in the background. while playing that musical part of the game there’s screams of the live action actors and preformers while you fight shadow people! It’s amazing when you play it but watching the music video is also amazing you just don’t get the gameplay part lol.😅

I usually hate horror video games. But Alan Wake 2 is an absolute masterpiece, combining state-of-the-art picture quality, amazing sound design, great gameplay, deep storytelling, original songs and even a live music show from the Old Gods of Asgard perfectly integrated within the story. Something that has never been done in a video game. A peak of audacity, led by the creative director Sam Lake (the guy dancing in the middle at the end). That is why gamers have such a positive reaction.
