Pro tip, if you use belana etcher or another similar piece of software to install Ventoy on your thumb drive, from then on you can just toss whatever isos you want into your thumb's ventoy partition, and when you boot you'll just get a list of isos to boot from. Basically, you can stick any or all linux, windows, livecd, whatever distributions on a single thumb drive without dealing with the etcher process or managing partitions.

For those who experience it - if you happen to get "stuck" at 3% while it creates LVs during ProxMox installation, be patient. Seriously, could take around 5 to 30 extra minutes at times. Just be patient. It WILL start moving again.

once the GPU is passed through (eg, at 28:46), it may help to set VM > Hardware > Display to None which should force the physical GPU to be the only one. The login screen should show on the monitor, and you won't need to mirror the screen

Worked for me. Initially it needs to be “Default” but after the step where the Nvidia tweaks are applied, it can be set to “None” and you’ll need to pass through a USB keyboard & mouse at that time as well. It’s working perfectly while set to Display None & no mirroring

I do have one question though - is it necessary to pass through the entire GPU, or can we pass through just certain parts of it, such as 4 of 12GB and one external port?

Sadly the whole GPU needs to be passed through for macOS but for windows you can use the VirGL function in proxmox. Thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

@@HJSSolutions This might not be 100% accurate, Proxmox has a LIBVF-IO vGPU virtualization. It is said to only support Linux but maybe MacOS could work since it is basically freebsd? Anyways, in the future it will be possible to share the GPU but not the GPU output.. so using the Virtual GPU stuff you cannot use HDMI1 of the GPU to power a monitor, at least this is my understanding.

Great instruction! Suggestion on KZbin vids have a black gutter bar so when pausing or going full screen the video controls don't block the top and bottom portions. Like when you cleared the screen and typed in commands. When pausing the stupid YT covers the screen and you cant see. Same thing happens across the bottom. . . Re-watch and pause as you go, you'll see what I'm spit'n... I suggest using larger font too. Worked perfect. Deb is solid! Thanks!

Yes mate, you can use a AMD epyc 64 core processor if you wanted to or a cheap i3 it depends on your needs and uses.

Have followed the part where you installed the OSX vm. I did my OSX vm install from a different guide, but I always got stuck at PCI Configurator when the OSX was booting with GPU passthrough and Display set to none. Finally the way it did work was at minute 24:47, I did have Primary GPU and PCI-Express ticked. By unticking those two OSX was starting properly. Small detail but huge problem that was. Thank you for the video.

Brilliant video. I wondered if you could answer a question on a small problem I have. I've got as far as 23:58, GPU passthrough. The macOS wallpaper/background appears on my main monitor on the DP connection, filling the whole display. All good. But the login prompt never appears on the passed-through display, just the background. I've done some testing, and note that If I start the console, and then boot the machine, I can see the white Apple logo and progress bar building, and when this stops updating the passed-through display then appears on the main monitor. And when I stay inside the console and press a key on the keyboard, a white flash appears on the passed-through display. I'm sure that flash is something to do with Apple accessibility settings. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Excellent. But I'm not able to move my mouse pointer from the console to the main display. Interestingly, I can see the edge of the mouse pointer just appearing on the far left of the main display, but it wont go any further right. Any ideas on that one?

Hey Harvey’s what a nice video, finally a real video of the new way of hackintoshing that explain what we want (a hackintosh). Great job ! However, I just have two question : - I tried to built my hackintosh with the new way 2 weeks ago and each time, after selecting mac os in opencore during booting, my screen just go black and the vm doesn't boot up :/ I saw on a comment on this videos that some gpu are not supported. Are you having a list of gpu who's not supported with this type of installation ? Or can you simply tell me if my gpu isn't supported ? (R9 380 amd, yes pretty old 😅) - You can start the vm during proxmox bootup but for the shutdown, can we shutdown the computer when the vm is shutting down ? Hello, thank you for watching my video first of all. 1. Sadly your GPU is not supported :( I will probably make a video soon explaining the support for gpus and the best ones to get for the price range if that sounds cool. 2. Yes you can start the vm as soon as proxmox starts up and for shutdown if you push the physical power button on the PC in a couple of minutes it will completely shutdown the system. You can adjust the time that it waits for the vm to gracefully shutdown too. Hopefully I’ve explained everything.

Ok after following this tutorial to a T up to this point and learning more about UEFI shell commands, I've found there is absolutely NOTHING on FS0 (File System 0), let alone a directory structure like what you're delving into in order to execute the boot.efi file. Is the video missing some crucial steps? Options > Boot Order > ide2 is the OpenCore-v19.iso | ide0 is the macos iso | virtio0 is the local-lvm | net0 is unchecked. Both virtual CD drives added and set to cache=unsafe as instructed. Get to UEFI Shell, type in everything verbatim and nothing. I've sent an email but would greatly appreciate a response here as it would not only help me but the rest of the community following along.

I have 2 questions i) If I follow this process then how much CPU cores and RAM can be allocated to the macOS virtual machine? Provided I only want to create macOS only on top of proxmox. ii) Currently I don't have any GPU so what GPU to buy for a successful pass through to the macOS machine?

You can allocate all your cpu cores and threads if your only going to be using it for macOS. Same with ram but leaving at least 2GB for proxmox it’s self. A GPU to buy to be successful depends on your budget. Give me an email and we will discuss what’s the best for you : [e-mail]

Can't seem to get past the fs0 command stage. When I enter it, the Apple logo appears and then almost immediately the VM seems to restart and it jumps back to the UEFI Shell / Reset NVRAM screen. At what point in the fs0 command stage do you use the ALTGR + # key combination? I'm applying it after entering the fs0 command as I assume it simulates a native Macs startup key commands?

Fascinating! Thanks Harvey, I want to try this on a Dell OptiPlex 7020 with i7CPU but only 8gb of SSR3 RAM is this good enough for Proxmox? I had a look at the BIOS settings to enable virtualization but when I pressF12 I have a page full of Options including UEFI settings as well as BIOS settings. I thought UEFI "legacy" BIOS but I saw an option to enable virtualization on the BIOS set up so enabled that. Also saw option to enable Trusted PLatform ? but wasn't sure if that was necessary so left it as was. Any comments? and do I need to do anything on UEFI too? As you can see I'm pretty green with this tech so all tips gratefully received! How much do you want for *your* Hackintsh, Harvey? :D

The reasons for unstable downloadspeed can differ. In most cases it is simply because of the bandwidth the connected server provides. You could do a few different downloads with a tool like wget or aria2 for comparison with you browser.

Great video. I do get stuck however at about the 26:50 mark. When I open OpenCore Legacy Patch and click post install root patch I get a bunch of reasons why the patch can't install. SIP enabled, Currently boots SIP, AMFI enabled and three properties not running related to Nvidia. Any help would be appreciated.

I watched on an ︎iPad Pro and it was possible to zoom in at that point. Hope this helps. Unfortunately, as I was doubling the size, the resolution falls apart - but it’s still possible to see which boxes are being ticked/unticked, etc. You’d have thought KZbin would’ve enabled a +/- zoom by now, after all these years, for people without perfect vision, wouldn’t you?

Worked as intended.. Your ste-by-step guide was great..Fortunately for me I already use and have Proxmox, so was less intense to follow. My only issue is is that via the "console/vnc" ON Proxmox to the VM, it is just slow as all sin, not even usable. I even upped the memory to 64G. So, that's a definite no no as far as using. I then through Windows 11 try to VNC in, and in Mac I tried both remote desktop and then screen sharing, set password to test123. Nothing I do on Win 11 allows me to VNC in, keep getting incorrect security. Well, I tried! My issues are not others issue, so I hope others fare better.

What a great video!!! Congrats! Simply you pass the GPU just by adding PCI device. Obviously you need to view the machine in another PC (via the GUI), right? Because I've seen before GPU passthrough but is very complicated, cuz it needs to touch the GRUB, enable io-mmu graphic drivers and do a lot of stuff in order that show the Vm on the main server, instead of text terminal

Hi, I have US version. Anyway, I managed to go through installation without this. I am at the end, trying to passthrough my integrated Intel hd4600 but when I am running open core legacy patcher, it doesn't see that GPU, and button for patching is dimmed.

Since ventura 13.1 it won’t update i have to download the new full installer and run it every time. On all my systems, checked the serials etc. Have no ides why the update via system oanel won’t work

I have followed your directions. Im trying to install this on my laptop. However when get to 10:10 and after following all the steps on a separate machine in web browser on my computer. I was successful in installing the operating system. However, when I go back to the laptop and boot it up, it goes to this same login prompt shown 10:10. The virtual machine runs on the computer but how do I get the laptop to load macOS?

I shutdown Proxmox - added the Nvidia 710, added it to the VM, got to see “DMAR-IR: Enabled IRQ remapping in x2apic mode" GPU is attached and then I try to start the VM and it freezes. then I lose connection to the Proxmox. The Networkname has changed to "vmbr0" (ip addr) but the real name is "enp3s0" which is in /etc/network/interfaces from the very beginning. How Can I continue? I can no longer ping out direct from the proxmox console.

I have never been able to make this work in a way that is useful. No audio, no blue tooth. Using the latest version of proxmox, when I add the GPU, the graphics appear on the host server, not on the remote PC, with no keyboard or mouse input. Ryzen 5700x, Rx6600 GPU on ASUS X570 MB.

Hi, you can setup ZFS in proxmox really easily. I recommend RAID Z1 for your configuration which allows 1 drive to fail before loosing data. But ZFS is quite RAM heavy to just a standard RAID.

Tanks for the video, quick update, to solve this problem, at the point before switching to the other device to open the browser, use apt update, then use apt upgrade, then use apt-get install xfce4 chromium lightdm, to install graphical interface, after that is done type adduser typehereusername, then set a password, Uff after all this you can login into a xfce linux basic desktop, adn open the browser to continue, this is too much to explain in a text comment I’ll paste a link later for a video, the point is install xfce4 then continue
