Interesting. My great-grandfather bought this locker from Dindigul 80 or 90 years ago, in the 1930s probably and it weighs around 750 to 1200 kg. The vault has 7 to 8 locks. And, my aunt told me that they brought this home using pipes and rollers as it is impossible to carry by men. It was at my aunt's home for a long time and I was fascinated by the lock mechanism. I used to go wide-eyed when they open the door (not frequent), and I don't remember how it looks inside. Recently, my aunt shifted her home (after 40 years), and I was waiting for how they're gonna move the one-tonne iron vault. 8 men tried to move it and were out of breath, they dragged it till the entrance of the home, they had to lift it to move out of the home as there was a threshold and a step. We bought wood, Ammi Kal, to roll the vault out of the home and it cracked the cement of the pavement. The next step was to lift the vault onto a lorry. We bought the ropes, now with 10 men, not able to lift it off the ground. They were trying to call the crane but since it was late at night, it was not possible. The family finally dropped the plan of taking the vault to the new home as it would probably break the tiles on the floor while moving in and the men took the vault inside the old home, left it at the entrance. We're trying to sell it now.
