This fixer upper is featured in this river town renovation video series that focuses on the before and after of a 100+ year old house remodel. Built in 1900, this Colonial Revival house will be restored to its former grandeur. I was surprised at how strong the plaster is and how it helps insulation of the house. It also provides good noise reduction. However we wanted updated wiring.

Renovating an old house, a person learns so much. For example, using the diamond pier footings was an economical and saved a lot of time. Thanks for sharing.

That stuff is heavy. Its taken me 6 trash cycles to get one 9 x 8 wall out.

I went through four dumpsters. All incurred overweight charges yes that is heavy and it’s a shame to take it down but when you have to do the wiring and plumbing, it’s a trade-off. I am happy that we saved quite a few of the plaster walls and ceilings.

By removing the lath the structure of the house is now weaker 😢

That's not even close to being true. Lath is not structural. If at all, you're talking .000001% difference.

I really wish people would learn terminology, pronunciation and technique before posting how-to videos. Pronouncing it like the tool "lathe" destroys your credibility. Plus the demo shown in the video of just busting it all up and breaking it with a hammer is not how you most efficiently prep for drywall. The lath nails need to come with the board or you add another process to prep. Take the time to deconstruct... you'll be much better off.

It is heavy working removing lath and Plaster down to the studs but worth it.
