@@painfulguess9429 Undertale punishs and criticizes the player no matter what even when playing the pacfist route. Does nobody realize that the player is only regconized and credited only during Genocide endings, but when you play Pacifist they instead don't care who the player is and give all the credit and progress you have done to Frisk as if thy are some innocent character who can't do wrong, except make the player the bad guy and take credit for every good decision and progression you made in the game. It is made very clear that Chara isn't the villain because the player is the one making the choice to kill but it doesn't make sense for Frisk to be the hero either because their choices, actions, and progression were not their own instead it is the player also.

The people who play the pacifist, the route about love and friendship, are so aggressive. Irony I think that genocide players are calmer because they’ve taken a challenge and they cannot be the angry type (undyne and sans) whereas pacifist players can be anyone. I did both sides but i have completed genocide a few times.

It was honestly a boring route to put up online at the time considering most people who watch Mark have explored Jacks channel as well, the genocide route is amazing and I love the story. Not to mention you cant get all the story line without PLAYING ALL THE ROUTES. Of course you can but you get alot more experience through the whole game. most of the LPs of undertale that started late ended up doing pacifist first as they were demanded to as soon as they mentioned they were starting it. It kinda ruins the whole concept of the game- it's sort of designed in a way that many people will play like a normal RPG then realise that the game will actually punish you for it, and do pacifist. This leads on to responsibility and resets, for example. For me, I grinded to lv 3 in the ruins (didn't go geno though) and reset after killing toriel because I felt bad. Then, after i spared tori, I was completely shook by flowey commenting on what I did. That's when I really started to love the game, because I hadn't ever played something that holds you accountable for everything, no matter if you restart or erase what you did, it knows. Flowey is by far my favourite character for this. The LP's don't get this experience and that's sad. They don't get that moment when you reach judgement and realise what LOVE and EXP stand for, or question what they're doing after they see some of the reactions you get for certain actions, such as sans disappearing until the endgame if you kill pap. They just get straight pacifist (obviously blind players can make that choice anyways, but it's different when you only pacifist because you were told to) and don't experience blind neutral, which IMO is one of the best impact runs and works well for your first run through. TL;DR - the only way to truly enjoy undertale is completely blind, with no recommendations on what to do past, say, making sure you get the apron / pan or stacking up on heals or something. You're supposed to figure out what to do by learning from your runs. The "goal" is to get back to the surface, and the way to do that is pacifist, but doing this first time by being told to misses out on lots of the experience.

InternetTAB Sorry, but no. The point of the game is that YOU have to experience and feel the weight of your decisions. That’s part of what makes it so amazing. Everything that happens in the game is because of you and you alone. To have people taint that experience for the player by dictating their every move just because they’re afraid the KZbinr is going to stop playing is stupid and childish. If the KZbinr stops playing a game even when they don’t get the true ending, then it’s probably because they didn’t find the game worth playing twice anyway. Because here’s what happens when you force a KZbinr to play a game (that the fandom itself ruined btw): You get an uncomfortable Let’s Play. Look at what happened to Markiplier. He started having so much fun with the game, but because he wasn’t paying attention to stupid little details or even giving the characters the “wrong” voices (like seriously, what the fuck even?), he stopped playing for a while and finished the rest during livestreams begrudgingly. Everybody in said livestreams were so uncomfortable because it was obvious he was no longer enjoying himself like he normally does. It was hard to watch. Undertale is an experience where you are meant to go blind. If you can’t understand that, then it’s YOU who has missed the entire point of the game.

This video makes me feel so much better about my decision to stop my Let's Play of Undertale. I didn't get death threats, but man, there was so much backseat gaming, and of course I didn't worship the game, I had some criticism of certain parts, and THAT WAS A BAD IDEA LET ME TELL YOU. The toxic Undertale fans and the experience of trying to LP the game on KZbin ruined the game for me. It's the only game out of almost a thousand Steam games that I have actually deleted from my Steam collection, my experience was that unpleasant. Really good soundtrack though.

Actually, after that incident came out the person who was attacked said it wasn't about Undertale at all. The person who gave them the needle cookie had beef with them over other shit, they just gave them the cookie while they were tabling at a convention. Doesn't mean the fandom still isn't hot garbage but this was unrelated to them. People jumped to conclusions just like "make Klance canon or i'll leak the show" Voltron drama, which was a troll.

UT fandom can get scary, like REALLY REALLY scary. Some streamers refused to play it because of the major backseating and toxic response to criticism, then they go as far as to giving death threats to them because they won't play it...as if that makes them want to play it more. When I first played the game I thoroughly enjoyed it. A couple weeks later after it was released, I started seeing it blow up on the internet as it started spawning some questionable and bad content. Like a LOT of it. It unfortunately affected my opinion of it since it became so oversaturated and divisive.

This is why I'm scared to mention Undertale to other people, even though I really like the game. There's definitely a stigma surrounding being an Undertale fan, all because a minority in the fandom took it way too far. Some people are absolutely feral about their interests, and unfortunately they are the loudest and most visible of the fandom, when most of us are normal, rational people.

This is why people should never bash something before they try it, and Undertale is no exception. Undertale is an awesome indie game and despite the unfortunate downfall of the fanbase, the fanbase's actions should never impact someone. People should be accepting. Undertale is something that makes people happy, why would they be attacked for liking it all because of a small minority in its fanbase that gives the game a bad name? Well, what do I know? I'm just a lonely teenage schoolboy stuck in isolation during a global pandemic in the year of 2020 talking about an indie game from 2015.

I made a W.D. Gaster cosplay about three years ago at this point. I was really proud and learned a lot while making it because it was one of my first serious ones. When it came time to wear it to the small local convention I was super excited. I had a lot of people say I looked good and I was really happy. But throughout the Con I kept getting a few weird looks or people just strait being rude to me, either before or after I mentioned I was cosplaying someone from Undertale. I was confused, I thought maybe my costume was bad or wrong to these people; some of whom weren't cosplaying anything as far as I could tell. I was rather upset because I love Cons mostly for the cosplay, my own as well as others. It wasn't till later I found out how hated/toxic the fandom was. I don't know if those people who where rude to me didn't like Undertale for one reason or another OR they "loved" Undertale and didn't like how I portrayed Gaster, (since he is a hard character to get a solid design for). I actually have not worn that cosplay since then which is odd because I reuse cosplays at different Cons that I go to and I put so much effort in it. But I am actually scared to wear it because of the backlash I fear I might get for wearing it to a bigger Con. I know this fear is probably silly, the hate has died down (I think) and I would probably meet some kindered spirits if I wear it again. But that one experience ruined it I think.

I get why. I'm sorry that happened to you. But yeah, it was probably because A) Either because Undertale is already everywhere and some people are really annoyed by it (what you couldn't have known) B) Cosplays are a symbol for dedicated fans, that's nothing bad. But Undertale's 'dedicated' fans are seen rather negative, due to how the brag about their knowledge or just don't shut up about the game and many other examples that were shown in the video here. But by any means, you did nothing wrong, you has no bad interest and I get why you're scared. I would be too. But trust me, I'm sure your cosplay looks awesome ^^

Mate, if i bought the game, it is mine, it does have a good ending but that is a choice that the player can do, if he wants to be a sociopath and kill everyone, fine, if he wants to be carismatic and not kill anyone? Also fine, after all, why you he put several endings if it had a correct ending, and despite that, as my first argument, the game is mine, i decide what to do, such as Markiplier and many others person. I think the difference between running over an npc in gta for example and killing a important character in undertale is the character development (random monster like frogrit dosent count here). thats where people find the "problem" i think, people get too attached.

@Perfectlymixed when ur around 2015-early 2017, Undertale was really the "BTS" of videogames because of how UT fandom's behavior is comparable to a typical and condescending kpop stans : unhealthy obsessions, death threats, using dead people to promote the game (maybe if he stanned Undertale, he would (insert cause of death)), fanboyism, fanon trash, pushing Undertale by ruining other games (cringe crossovers), cartoon fight club (Just Sans being always requested, heck Sans has the worst stats, and he's kinda annoying for me), gazillions of AUs which doesn't make any sense and maybe, an excuse for sanscest shipping. Gosh, UT really god-tier in terms of AU and fanfictions (mostly Sans having so many roles as PTA dad, overpowered genocidal skeleton, a sexual active skeleton, doctor, a god etc.). Good thing Deltarune happened, and really refreshing bc of some new characters.

The only thing Toby explicitly blamed the fandom for (to my knowledge at least) was its tendency to spoil the game. I'm certain he also dislike some of the more vocal, close minded and aggressive fans, but most claim that "Toby Fox is ashamed of the fandom, he publicly distanced itself from it" are based on nothing. He once jokingly complained that there wasn't enough weird fanart of Undertale (or something of that effect), and if you know the man a bit, it become clear that he isn't the type of person to be afraid of coming as "cringy" or "immature". One year I made Asriel cosplay for local biggest con at that time. Any time I see another "new original AU idea dont steal" it makes me wanna club baby seals. They're everywhere! I feel like any time you have a piece of media that gets insanely popular, you're going to come across a significant amount of toxicity. As someone who's actually relatively new to Undertale though, I think what makes its story stand out is that it's such a small self-contained game. So in comparison, its massive fandom along with the huge amount of fan content that comes with it is particularly impressive. And because Undertale itself is so small, it seems like it tends to get swallowed up by the gigantic fandom in ways that many other bigger franchises do not. I really like Undertale, though, and I've been fascinated by listening to people talk about their experiences when it was still new. It makes me sad that the toxicity became too much for some people and it either drove them way from the game or discouraged them from ever trying it in the first place. I understand being passionate about something you love, but there's really no reason to attack others because they don't feel the same way you do about a game --- or because they want to experience it in a different way. It's not worth it.

I think one of the flaws of Undertale is that the Neutral Route just outright removes content from the game. That's all it does. The game doesn't branch into specific content for that route so I think the reason why some people are so whiny towards it is because it essentially just cuts out ~20% of the game with nothing to make up for it. Its less about expecting players to play how they want them to play, but actually being able to experience the full game. *SPOILERS* If the Omega Flowey fight was completely specific to neutral then I doubt this issue would exist. Other tweaks to the game would have to happen but it'll work in the game's favor in order to make Neutral actually worth doing. The only downside is forcing the player the play twice to experience the full content (or 3 times, technically...).

Dunal Yeah my main problem with it, despite liking it, is along those lines. You gotta do neutral to do pacifist, so it ain't very special. Pacifist should be It's own run. Genocide doesn't hurt from that. I mean I tried going back to make alphys happy so I could get her on my screen in the game's main menu, but you can only do that after omega flowey. I find that pretty lame.

Welp, regardless of fandom, people are...VERY protective of their ships. Believe me. While I'm still a mellow fan, I was...accosted by someone who shipped Frisk the human and Sans the Skeleton, wanting me to renege on my opinion of said ship...which was an all-caps assault on how "wrong" I was, "aging-up is fine", and how "I was old school history". Yeah, after that, I still come across the battlegrounds of old shipping wars and...sadly, some just can't let go. Some, however, have moved on and contributed to the fandom with amazing artwork, stories, fangames, theories, and songs; some, sadly, choose to only focus on the cringy/negative and rag on the fandom from there. I hope that things improve soon.

The undertale fandom got really toxic and though there were some good people being friendly it got to the point where I didn’t wanna be there anymore but still enjoyed the game and wanted to interact with people who liked it as well, so I moved on to deltarune who’s fandom is a lot more chill.

The Undertale fandom upsets me so much. I was an active member of it's fandom in it's beginning and though I have not left it I'm not actively searching for content. So many things were put on the internet that twisted and corrupted the games image and purpose. Many of my friends who were once devoted members of the Undertale fandom now are ashamed of it and claim to hate the game, all because of it's "toxic" fandom. Well truth be told there's been worse fandoms, and Undertale is a fantastic game. It's system was crafted beautifully, all video game logic is used and given purpose in the universe which brings so much more life into the game. Every character is unique and individual, you feel as though you can make genuine connections with them. The score is also phenomenal, when you hear the Undertale soundtrack you automatically know what game it's from and what area it's played in. And last but not least one of if not the best aspect of the game was it's multiple routes. I will admit that I was the kind of person who believed in "the right way" to play the game, so whenever suggesting to my friends to watch a letsplay of it I always told them to watch a pacifist run first. But that was because Undertale has a powerful message. It teaches you about kindness and valuing life. The pacifist route takes a persons destructive instincts and retrains them to be careful with their decisions. Every little action made within the game has an affect, every mini boss battle truly is a confrontation with a conscious being, the game knows what you're doing and will either punish you or reward you for your actions. When I watched the pacifist route(I couldn't get the game for myself) I grew extremely attached to the story and it's characters, I really connected with the game. Then after watching the genocide route my heart broke. It felt like I was watching all of my friends die in front of me and I could't do anything about it. Before Undertale I was a truly neutral person. I didn't really believe in fate or destiny, I believed nothing mattered and my choices only affected me. I didn't grow close with my friends, nothing really mattered to me. But then I delved into the world of Undertale. It was vibrant and colorful, each character had motivations and dreams, they weren't just mindless NPC's living for the plot of the game, they were pursuing whatever they wanted to pursue. A characters absence had a massive affect on the entire timeline of the game. Everything mattered, and then it clicked. I started to change my behavior and naturally the way I viewed life evolved. I always try to make genuine connections with people and create a safe space for my friends. I'm careful with my decisions and conscious of my actions. Because everything that I do affects the end of this game, every choice we make affects the route we live in life. So when introducing someone to Undertale I wanted them to experience that sensation of love and loss that I did. Life was bland and boring, and now it's beautiful and chaotic but I wouldn't have it any other way. Yes, there were terrible people that gave Undertale a poor reputation. But it is the most engaging, well rounded, and life changing games I have ever seen. It is a work of art, and the handful of bad apples who also share a love for the game are not worth abandoning Undertale over.
