Thank you for your lovely comment. It is indeed a beautiful place with history at every corner. The arrangements for vast numbers of people to do park and ride for the steampunk weekends are also better than anything I've ever encountered for events on that scale.

When a child, my Grandparents, lived in Whitely Bay, One time when dad was driving us all north toward Newcastle. I was able to see the road map and became confused between Whitby and Whitely..? While these days I am aware of the difference. That always stuck in mind...

Easy confusion for a child...both sound the same and both are next to the sea! I think it is interesting to see how the two places have changed over the past 50 years in such different ways. Back in the 90s I worked with someone in Northumberland whose family went to a B&B in Whitley Bay for a week each year, because it was a family tradition, but I doubt many people do that now. Meanwhile, parts of Whitby seem to be a ghost town outside the tourist season....

A nice little historic video, utterly spoilt by the speed the pictures are turned over, with hardly any dwell time to study the pictures, pointless !
