I typically drop a massive steamer right in the middle of the scrape and wipe off on a licking branch. Let me clarify; ONLY NEAR MY NEIGHBOR’S STAND.

Exactly like this guy did by grabbing the licking branch in someone else's hunting area. Unfortunately how most hunters act. He was filming it, and still just couldn't help himself. He knows it is bad bc he immediately says he doesn't hunt there after he does it.
@alanburgess505311 ай бұрын
I could not agree more with you. I use the same trick with a mock scrape and peeing in them. Once the dominant buck in the area thinks there is another buck in his area, he will go crazy hunting the intruder buck. I find this is most successful prerut, when the dominant buck is running out all the other bucks in the area as to keep all the does for his self.

I have a ton of ideas like that but never get out of my truck once the mock scrap has been set. Many tricks. You can start mock scrapes way early. Just have to be scentless and careful of the scent. Preoribital is a fantastic method as well.

Hey good video...I also do this with scrapes.. but you can tell if there is doe in heat just by tasting and smelling the soil. Take about a tea spoon(about a pinch) of it and roll it around on your tongue if it's tangy then that is there as well... you can also smell it if you get a handful and bury your nose in it and take deep breaths... and always remember where ever you go there you are.. have fun hunting

The men & women who were here before, had clay jars, bark containers, woven baskets, so containers were no issue with them & their vast knowledge of making what was needed from the environment around them. 👍👍👍👍👍 I’m going to try this! I have had success bringing deer in front of a trail camera with an installed licking vine & mineral lick below at a 5 trail intersection. It would be fun to watch their reaction on 30 second video to this trick! The licking vine, they lick on it as if it’s a lollipop! Been seeing many different kinds of animals in a relaxed state in the area, even a doe & button buck bedding nearby. 😃 Funny to watch a buck get annoyed at the vine & show some sparring aggression, as it spins & taps him on the head. 😃

You can use anything in a scrape. We proved this in college in our wildlife studies. They even followed Aqua Velva...that's aftershave to you folks that don't know. When they are in rut everything turns their attention. Meanwhile, it may take a week for him to come around...I'm going to have my gun ready and down wind. Nothing like a long ass wait, I'd go the heck back over to the active scrape where you gathered the dirt as someone may have ran over this buck with the family Buick. LOL

This was taught to me in the 80's when I started hunting, but as I got older I realized it's not necessary. Urine breaks down into ammonia rather quickly, so I doubt you're getting anything other than that. Freshly disturbed dirt is an attractant itself though (visual/scent). Honestly I believe you'd be better off taking the licking branch if you won't hunt there. I have a lot of videos of bucks hitting scrapes and they don't even sniff the ground. Licking branch gets all the attention. It seems to be the most important part of the scrape.
