So much character in these old schools! They had a life and history of their own. Today's kids don't know what they have missed! Community's pulled together for their schools and each other! Respect for one another and was a happier time! I was so lucky experience a small part of those times!

Great videos!!! I graduated from Greensburg in1980. I went to the school pictured for 7th and 8th grade. There is an older high school in town that is now apartments. We didn't have videos or cable- we had sports, music, and the outdoors. Thanks for the memories when our heroes were the boys who made the winning basket with 2 seconds left in the game.

Thank you a thousand times for that wonderful compilation. I am a 1965 graduate of Washington Catholic HS and was a cheerleader in two of the gyms where "Hoosiers" was filmed. Great piece of work. Again, thanks for the memories.

I love these old schools and gyms. I grew up in Kansas and played in a lot of cracker boxes and larger fieldhouse style gyms as well. They had so much character and almost a "personality". Most of the new gyms are all exactly the same. 2 tiers of pull-out bleachers on the sides with a balcony walkway behind the goals. Very vanilla, to say the least.

Ha! I went to the Huntingburg Gym and took gym class there when I was in Middle school during the 80's. It was a most magnificent structure---it could seat the whole town of 5,000 people at once, because pretty much the whole town came for the basketball games. Thanks for the memory. I was very sad when they finally tore it down, there won't be another like it ever again.

Some high schools need to build more classic gym like this instead of plain box gym. Add some brick work and windows. Something to take pride in.

Great video! I have to tell you about the Newby Dome in Mooresville. It was the first gym in Morgan Co. specifically built for basketball. It is over 100 years old and is sill in use today for recreational and Hoops teams.

still hoping part 3 will show the northern part of the state from lake and porter counties. some of the gyms are long gone but some are still up.

If you ever get the chance to do a Part 3, you should look at the former Lima Township High School gymnasium in Lagrange County (Howe, IN). It was built in the 1920's and is still in use as a grade school gymnasium. When I attended grade school there in the late 70's and early 80's it still had the original wooden bleachers. The building that was attached to the gymnasium when I was in grade school was the former township high school building. It was built in 1874. At the time it was one of the oldest operating school buildings in the State of Indiana. Unfortunately, it was demolished in the 1980's.

love that Pine Village is in there...the PINE KNOTS...they won the 1973 Fountain Central sectional....I remember watching that game as a kid living in Attica. Of course, the Pine Knots went on to get crushed in the regional by who else...but Lafayette Jeff. No team from the Fountain Central sectional in the 60's and 70's ever advanced past the regional because they always had to play Lafayette Jeff at Jeff! (except Attica in 1967)

I hope you made more of these. Napoleon and Osgood are missing. Sadly, Napoleon was torn down years ago because it was too old to save (parts were built in the 1860s or so), and Osgood High (home of the Cowboys!) went on to become an elementary school (I went there) until 1990, and now it's a winery of some sort.

ok part 3 has to have Lafayette Jeff's Crawley gym...man that was the place we used to dream about playing in if we won our sectional (Fountain Central). Of course Jeff ALWAYS won their sectional for what was it....20 straight years...and Coach Crawley is a Hoosier legend. What a run he had with his teams. Then Frankfort's gym needs to be in there as well. When we went to play there in the 70's we were in awe of the place....their school nickname didn't elicit much fear though...the Hot Dogs! LOL! However, Frankfort had a legendary coach,Evert Case,that my grandpa knew when he lived in Frankfort. So much HS basketball history in Indy...those were the days when communities bonded.

I had basketball practice in there a couple times when other gyms were in use. Not sure if it’s still in use it was crippling! sir, the fact that you forgot one of the greatest gyms in Indiana, Memorial Gymnasium, Home of the Columbus North Bull Dogs is absolutely upsetting. How can you forget about a gym that has seen more people in it and more basketball history go through that gym than almost any other in the state. Either Video had it. Also, It was Columbus Central Middle School, Central was not a high school ever.
@gregalexander729610 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to differ with you but the old Columbus Central campus was the Columbus High School until the early 1950's when the current campus was built. I have seen several pre 1930 Columbus Yearbooks with photo's of this building and the 1923 gymnasium. As for Memorial Gym, I do plan on another video at some point. The first two were mainly for former school buildings and gyms or pre 1950 structures. Memorial gym was build in the early 1950's so it just missed the cut this time.
