Old Ironforge: Exploring the WoW Alpha (0.5.3)

In this video series, we take a look at the oldest playable version of World of Warcraft Classic - the WoW Alpha Version 0.5.3. Big thanks to the folks over at the AlphaProject for getting this version up and running and sharing it with the world! I will continue to explore and level up as much as possible, hopefully without dying as otherwise I would have to start over. I hope you enjoy this glimpse at what used to be, and perhaps together we will find some inspiration for what might lie in wait for Classic+, if Blizzard ever does decide to expand their original entry into the series!

The reason for 2 routes in the tram is actually because one route was for ironroge and Gnomeregan was suppose to be a city for the alliance. The idea was scrapped and turned into a dungeon instead, but in worlddefense you can still see "gnomeregan is under attack" when horde players attack mobs near the dungeons entrance,

I agree! And it feels much more like an actual city, with it being not so linear and clear-cut. Those alleys inbetween the Forge and the outer ring really sell it imo

The AlphaProject community is still quite small, but their discord is a great place to hang out! Theyre always looking for contributors and people with knowledge or interest in the Alpha Version, I'm sure they'd welcome you with open arms if you wanna go check it out :) Thanks for commenting and sharing the list of changes, I'll be sure to look through it first thing tomorrow morning Edit: Also I would have loved to see them bring back 1.0 over 1.12 as well, such a shame and missed opportunity. But this way was obviously much easier for Blizzard. Least amount of effort for maximum profit ... sad to see!

@@DArch706 yeah joined up after I seen the link in your description, glad to see others that wanted the same as myself, I ran my server completely out of love for the game with no profit just hard work and lots of testers that would report anything that didn't work

​@@rzr-ox4eethats so cool to see! You were early with it too - back then I was still messing around on Feenix' Emerald Dream server. I'll defs check it out:) thanks for sharing! Who knows, a couple of years down the road the WoW Classic hype might actually lead to a proper 1.0 server springing up. Elysium/Lights Hope was pivoting in that direction at least so far as they had the old T2 models in game for a while the way they used to drop in MC on the NA servers back in 2004. Sadly the server had other issues related to management as far as I know. But I liked that idea at least. If anything the current hardcore hype demonstrates how easy 1.12 really is. I don't think it will hold up for too long; people should realise before long it is more an exercise in patience and not being overconfident than a true test of one's ability.
