Old Orgrimmar: Exploring the WoW Alpha (0.5.3)

The reason Thrall looks like that with the different hair is because when the game doesn't know what texture to load onto a model, oftentimes it doesn't know what meshes to load either. So it just kind of loads all of them. What you're seeing is an orc male model, with no texture (so it's pink) and all of the different customization meshes applied at once. All of the hairstyles, all of the beards, all of the bracers, the robe texture, etc. You'll notice the same thing with the untextured trolls.

@@DArch706 Yeah, you can see this in the live game now if you're a druid with Glyph of Stars. If you go into moonkin form and open your character sheet, you'll see your character with all of the meshes loaded and just a white texture. It's been like this for ages lol

The Ring of Valor was in the game, though through the haze of memory fog and being too lazy to check XD - I think it may of only been added back in during Wrath? All it was used for was a cinematic moment between Thrall and Garrosh in the pre-patch events, if I remember correctly.

boar trainer, does that imply that hunters had specific trainers for each beast type?? have you been able to find something like a wolf trainer for example? thank you for the content (I binged everything) & phenomenal work!!

Regarding your question: I can't recall having seen a wolf trainer yet, but I have seen raptor trainers, bear trainers, boar trainers as you can see in the video and I think an owl trainer also. So I'd imagine there is a specific trainer for pretty much every type of pet. Some of them are also in quite out of the way locations, which would have made for an interesting experience, having to go and find them somewhere in the wilderness. I think that ties in very nicely with the outdoorsy vibe of the hunter class. However I can also understand why it was cut, as pets can already be a bit of a chore to deal with in terms of how new skills are learned etc. On the other hand: maybe the pet skills would have been taught by the respective trainers, instead of being learned through taming and using said abilities? That would have actually helped make it a bit less tedious!

I really like the idea of the hunter pet trainers, though knowing vanilla, they'd probably make things way more tedious than they needed to be by forcing you to visit them every level. In my opinion, cities desperately need(ed) more meaningful NPCs that made wading through them more worthwhile. (I feel the same way about all the equipment vendors; they'd have a limited stock of green-quality items and maybe even a single blue-quality item that would make exploring the cities and visiting them at all hours of the day worthwhile. It would also be another gold sink.)

I think that's a great idea! Doesn't even have to be particularly special items either, just a small selection of limited stock gear for different levels would make checking in with a capital city vendor every now and then actually worthwhile.

5:31 maybe archeology more than carteogrophy? because we also have archeology now. maybe devs were just so lazy they were like: "hey look, there is this one profession that didnt make it in the game because of time or implement hussles. lets just add this now, devs back then always had great ideas." when the newer devs were looking through old wow ideas from former devs lol.

I was watching a vid by DesignerDave on YT (old WoW game designer) and he said they were gonna put Cartography, I'm pretty sure in my Ironforge vid I'm also showcasing a Cartography trainer next to the survival guy. But ye since Cartography didn't make much sense maybe they recycled it to Archaeology
