Old Lille is a district located in the north of Lille. It is the district's richest in constructions before the nineteenth century. It still retains many cobbled streets and some traces of the canals that crisscrossed the city in centuries past.

Lille’s Old Town is one of the minor glories of Northern France. Almost unbelievably, the powers-that-be a few years ago, were talking about razing this area and starting again! It was a slum at that point, but to have expunged it from the map would’ve been a perfect case of chucking the baby out with the bath water.
