Okay so because you've done this as a profession why could he not just get a chainsaw and cut the log put a chain around what's remaining and pull that out. I understand you're losing a good chunk of money by losing the log but wouldn't that be better than unloading it or risking fucking up your trailer?
@josephhodges9819
@josephhodges9819 10 ай бұрын
@@allenandres2535 That trailer can take a lot more abuse than he can dish out. If he cuts out everything but the tip then there is the possibility of it rolling and another log becoming loose. You said it initially because he has done it as a profession which means he is a professional and knows what he is doing.

I’m assuming you guys never worked commercial work? The way you define your rhythm working together is literally how every other journeyman or helper I’ve worked with has been in my entire career otherwise they didn’t get kept as my partner. Granted I was a steamfitter so it’s a two-man trade by definition but every commercial project I’ve been on had more plumbers than steamfitters lol. I don’t need to “ask” my helper for things because within a month of working with me they know how to layout ahead of me and keep me flowing about 95% of the time. It truly is a way better work day when you got that rhythm going.

@@zandatsu_cooks big battery or diesel electric with like a 35-50hp 1-1.5L generator would be great, you can use the fuel for long distance or electric for short distance, with the number of businesses where you're moving less than 50 miles in a day it also makes a lot of sense. And you could have enough power for a construction site, like a household is 9kw, with the generator you could have 40kw. If the inverters are configured for it, you could run 300V motors, and use them to output 240VAC with the max power of the truck so like 100kw or whatever. Imo using 25kw per wheel makes a lot of sense, you don't really need more power with a light duty truck, and 4wd is really useful for the places you might go to.

My dad started his first job in a logging camp at 10 in Stevenson Wa. My grandfather owned the team of horses and was lead. @IvanhoeWolfe-zn6fc
@IvanhoeWolfe-zn6fc Ай бұрын
@@nickieroyse8585 Bad thing is. I really understand your grandfather. People think a chainsaw is quicker and easier. But from personal experience. A good bucksaw and someone that knows how to use it. Can cut logs just as fast. And requires less work However. You need to be in good shape also A chainsaw is much more forgiving when not in as good as shape . A buck saw needs less sharping. I've been around logging on the West Coast and in the . Midwest. Two different birds I did some low-level logging. In Mid west. Missouri. I also found it amusing in Missouri how they think they have mountain and logging trucks . Lol. Ain't no mountain in Missouri. Just hills And that ain't log . This is a log. When one tree fills at least one 40 foot trailer. Close to 60 foot per log. and one log is bigger then 4 foot across. I think some were close to 8 foot across. Now that's a tree. Lol. I Make fun of the trees in Missouri and the likes. But in Truth. Both are hard work. But, I've never seen logging roads in Missouri anywhere equal to those along the California /Oregon border. Only other roads I've seen like that were in Guatemala. And they were paved. Don't worry. You go over the side. Your done. You are not stopping for several hundred or even over a thousand feet. I remember as a kid hearing the story of the drivers. And.... Bob went over the edge. Most the time avoiding some fool on the road. Those logging roads are not made to stop on. Once you start going down the road. It's a none stop trip to the bottom. Either by road or by side . And by road it at least 30 minutes going way too fast for my comfort. By this I mean what they did in like 30 minutes in logging trucks would take me 2 hours in an empty pick up. They flew done them mountains. And everyone I knew. Knew not to be on a logging road when logging was being done. But ever so once in a while some flatlander looking for someplace to hunt deer. Or one looking to see nature with the family would drive up them. And sometimes it turned bad. The nutcase drivers would rather hurt / kill themselves then another. See in Thier minds. No matter. They are going over. I only knew one guy that survived a over the edge. And He was a paraplegic . Son in law to a friend of my grandpa. I knew more drivers then loggers there. Or I should say thier kids. Oh and losing your brakes. Yeah The road by my grandpa's place. Once had a big old barn across the road where the logging road ended at the asphalt road. Lol. One day going over to his place. The barn was matchsticks. And I as a dumb kid asked about it. Grandpa laughed. Logging truck lost his brakes when though the barn and into the river behind it. What worse is he just missed a school bus by seconds. Yes the driver made it. Few cuts and bruises. But one heck of a tow bill to get the truck out of the rivers. Plus I'm sure the prize of that big old barn. About 15 years later. I drove back to my Grandpa's. And they never did rebuild that barn. Lol. It still sat there big pile of match sticks in 93. Shoot that was 30 years ago.

And yet when I was running loader and didn't notice it, the truck drivers made me walk halfway out of the job to yank it out with the heel rack. Oh well, it made me pay attention more after that that's for sure. Even so, if the truck driver leaves the landing without noticing it's kind of on him too.

I’ve seen people do this with jeeps and tractors to get unstuck so I assumed he was trying to do the same thing. I’m like, “He wasn’t stuck in the first place and the wheel didn’t even move?” lol. Makes MUCH more sense that he’s trying to remove a displaced log.

No. You don't need a log to put on tire chains. Do you think he just Man-handled That log in there to tighten his chains instead of just grabbing the bar he's got in the box? 😂 I can't tell if you people are serious because it's hard to believe so many are that dumb. He's pulling the log out. It may take more than one iteration to free it completely.

We had a rig that the Skidder used for this issue. He would just drive by, grapple, and yank them out on his way back into the woods. Real simple and very handy to keep around. Could use it on a nearby tree also, and just have the truck back up to pull it out.

What comes after this is the part i see done many different ways, only seen it rigged 3 dif ways in my time, but seen 100's of different ways be done from here.. i got a feeling alot of ppl are thinking he just continued to pull the log out then stack it on top, or put it aside for the next load. But ive got a feeling thats not what he is doing as Ive RARELY seen guys just pull it out and put it aside or on top.

Every owner or manager dealing with machinery deals with issues like this. There is no playbook other than experience, common sense, and understanding basic physics, to resolve the inevitable problems. They are just things that need done and your feelings don't matter. Often, no one will help you and no one nearby could help you. The great majority of problems end up being not so bad if you practice safety and systematic thinking.
