Out of 10, Geoff Castellucci is at least a TWELVE! If you choose to react more to him (and his a-capella group Voiceplay, of which he is a founding member), I really hope you do. You'll have a lot of catching up to do, and I guarantee you that each one will be amazing & fun! By the way, you probably realized (but just in case), all "five" men here were the same person -- Geoff! He's insanely talented & creative! Thanks!

Geoff's cover of House of the Rising Sun will surprise you. He's not actually going low in this one; it's pretty much all chest notes. House of the Rising Sun has some of Geoff's subharmonics (a vocal technique used to achieve super-low notes) placed right up front in the mix, and those will blow your mind. Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold is an overall very deep cover, but it's a mix of subs and chest, and if you're unfamiliar with the technique it can be difficult to differentiate the two. Another you might like is his cover of Way Down, by Elvis Presley (and featuring JD Sumner on the deep bass backing vocals). Geoff hits that iconic C1; an incredible achievement for a natural baritone. Don't let the deep bass fool you- he's worked hard for every note. Same goes for his upper range, which he had to develop back when he worked for the Disney parks. He also creates his own vocal arrangements (as well as all the instrumentation), shoots and edits his own videos; his 'crew' consists of his wife who is his production manager, and some of the guys from VoicePlay, the a cappella group where he sings bass. Eli, their tenor, provides incredible lighting work, and also did the 3D renders for this video. Layne, VoicePlay's vocal percussionist, co-owns a video production studio, where Geoff often films (this was filmed there), and sometimes he does some camera work as well. Additional makeup or camera work is hired on as needed, but it's generally a pretty small production, and one where Geoff has a hand in everything. It's a lot of work. Then keep in mind that he's doing the exact same thing for VoicePlay too, at the same time. He ought to be praised for his work ethic, as well as his gorgeous voice!
@johndeeregreen45922 жыл бұрын
Not a natural baritone; no baritone can hit an F#1 in chest voice... not possible. Even on this song, he is hitting a thick B1, which, again, not possible for a baritone. Even a low baritone struggles to get to a D2... the first octave with chest voice, timbre, and volume is reserved for low basses... not even a typical bass can do that.
@CynicalTesuji2 жыл бұрын
@@johndeeregreen4592 I was just repeating what I've heard Geoff himself say. Not being a vocalist myself, I can't speak to the accuracy of his statement; perhaps he was being facetious and I missed it, but he seemed sincere.

@@johndeeregreen4592 I am a low baritone, morning voice gets me around C2 but first octave takes either mixing chest fry or doing subs for me. However since discovering vp and subsequently Geoff, I now regularly listen to them... Maybe you might like Geoff's versions of 16 tons and big bad John. I was always a purist when it came to singing... studying Geoff changed all that. Using subharmonics, fry, growls, and a stronger falsetto, I took my better than average 3.5 octave range to nearly 6 octaves. If we count the (unusable in most cases) fry (that one came from studying Tim Storms, though), it's more like 7.5 octaves. I don't count the low extremes of fry, however, since some days it's there and others it isn't.

@@johndeeregreen4592 I spent a very long time trying to improve my higher range, only to get more and more frustrated that I couldn’t improve it much. When I discovered Voiceplay (also Home Free), I decided to try and work on my lower range. I succeeded 😎 and as if by magic, my higher range became more usable as well! I have no idea what my actual range is in octaves, but I can sing certain songs that were previously impossible for me. Thanks Geoff (and Tim Foust of course) 👍

Congratulations on pronouncing Geoff's first name correctly - a lot of people mess up on that, so much that Geoff has made a joke of it in several of his videos (including the BTS video for this video)! In keeping with the various mispronunciations and misspellings of his name he's seen and heard over the years, he's named the "clones" he creates for his videos - L to R, meet Jeff, Daryl (!), Geoff, Goff, and Jeoph. Rather oddly (to me, at least) Geoff considers himself a baritone with a bass extension. Considering some of the low notes he can reach, his extension must be several sub-basements deep! And he didn't even use any sub-harmonics in this song - it's all chest voice with a couple of growl notes. Any of the songs on Geoff's solo channel would be worth your time, but I'd especially recommend Sixteen Tons (cover of the old Tennessee Ernie Ford song, another song with no sub-harmonics) and House of the Rising Sun. For VoicePlay songs (Geoff is the bass in that a cappella group), My Mother Told Me (Geoff substitutes for a Viking war horn) and Oogie Boogie's Song (from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas).

Geoff - or his a capella group, VoicePlay, will never sing a cover like the original. When he decides to do a song the first thing he does is spend hours - sometimes days - tracking down and listening to every other version he can find. As he says - if it's been done, why would he do it again? ' His goal is to do something fresh with an older song. Keeping that in mind, he did great versions of 16 Tons and Big Bad John, but one of my favorites is the Bill Withers classic: Ain't No Sunshine. But if you're here to laugh and see some Halloween things, check his Monster Mash and Headless Horseman.

Geoff does his own arranging, performing, producing, editing, etc. The final audio mix is usually done by Ed Boyer. Geoff has a 5 octave range and is amazing at what he does. I'd love to see you react to another one of his covers and some Voiceplay ones as well. On another note, I love Geoff's hair. Assuming you're serious about not knowing who Fabio is, I'll answer. Fabio was/is the most sought-after cover model for romance novel cover art. His peak was the late 1980's-90's. The last I heard about him, he was recovering after being hit in the face by a large bird (duck, maybe?) while he was on a rollercoaster ride. Drew blood and everything. Even The Highwaymen, great for style (and star power), sound like old crows, so lose points for that. But we do get attached to old favorites, so you get a pass. Plus, I think you're envious of that hair! I think he grew it long and got in shape because it was going gray and he felt too much the Old Guy of his band. His wife now complains he's too pretty. I wouldn't!

For me, after a lifetime in music, it has not necessarily been about perfect pitch. The imperfections, the angst, etc can add layers of feeling that don't come across when everything is exactingly pitch perfect. An old crow for you - Johnny Cash with his cover of the song "Hurt" is a near idealic example of what I mean. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnKrdJmQibd6n6s

As far as the hair -- up until quite recently, mine was braided down to my belt. #LongHairDontCare

@@SaltyReacts ... I'm with you regarding Johnny's Hurt. It's extremely moving.

Dude. You're my age. We both know Fabio had one talent--looking pretty and getting nailed by pigeons on roller coasters. Geoff is a ridiculous talent, and to CONSTANTLY bring up a vague resemblance to Fabio is a pretty lame analysis of Geoff's interpretation of the tune. What's next? You'll compare Diana Ross with Kim Kardashian?
