A neighbour of mine has an old, old Weiser set (19 years). The exterior knob and spindle with key lock came off, and he asked if I could put it back together. I tried for half an hour, and went online to try and find an answer. Other videos did not show the inner workings very well or deal with troubleshooting. Then I found your video. The magic moment came at time point 3:20 when I heard you say "peened". I immediately understood how to fix the part back in place. I used my grandfather's 100 year old ball peen hammer and a slot screwdriver, placed the knob on the counter with the spindle upright, and tapped the two metal tabs back in place. Everything works perfectly now. I even added two small bits of epoxy putty to secure the tabs in place. Thanks from Vancouver, Canada.

Thank You Very Much for Your Tutorial. I used to do a lot of Rekeying when working as an Apprentice and I had done some of these but it's been years and for some reason I thought I had to pick it back to the 11:00 position to release this style but apparently it must have been another type of lock. Anyways, I'm Very Grateful for Your Instructional Video on this particular lock because a lot of people still have these on the Older Mobile Homes and the one I'm working on today belongs to a 91 Year Young Lady and She's going to be Very Happy to have been able to Save $$ and have everything keyed alike again!! Thanks Again!! Sincerely, J Quinn

I just used your video to take apart and put back together a 1960 Weiser ( just to prove to myself that I could do it AND I did). Now I have to order a rekeying kit from Home Depot and go through this process for 4 of these old, old, old vintage Weisers. Thank you very much. Without your video there is no way I could of accomplished this. The one I experimented on does not have a plastic washer or that small c-clip. I'm sure it will work fine without the washer but the c-clips I'll have to go round up.

Glad it helped :) I have seen them in use without a washer, the spring cage (if installed correctly) will stay on, on it's own, with the help of the latch kinda holding it in place so its (sorta) ok if its missing

Do you know if the Prime Line Weiser 5 Pin Re-Keying kit that is available at Home Depot will work on my Weiser? It is supposed to be good for 6 door knob locks. If not, do you have any suggestions? If it is only a matter of filing some pins that come with the kit to make them work then I certainly could do that.

Craig Alberhasky *googles *gasps absolutely not. The keys in the package are Kwikset KW10 keys, which while “would” work for Weiser Locks really should not be used if you have all native Weiser locks. The key is thinner and they are doing this to have less returns or complaints about the thicker Weiser key not going into locks (if someone has a mix of Kwikset and Weiser it is commonly done) but if all your locks are old or original Weiser (non Smartkey style) you really want to stick with real Weiser Keys I can match that price to send you some cut keys and correct pins. You can use any tubing/rod/etc that is 1/2” OD as a follower or I can chop off a piece of an aluminum rod I have if you don’t have anything. Hate to see you using that stuff & having a issue. bonus, our keys and pins are US made ;)

Craig Alberhasky I don’t have your email. Here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZWulXxnot6HmNU Also when you are pushing the core out with the follower (and pushing the core back in, the key needs to be turned to about the 2 o clock position as it relates to the top pins & springs being 12

So Weiser has KIK GEN1 locks with non removable core, GEN2 (not shown) and GEN3 locks with removable core and GEN4 locks in current production? Does GEN4 feature removable core?

I have a 1960 vintage Weiser that I had apart and forgot to put the smallest center square lock rod back in before installing the cylinder in the knob. Is there any way to remove the cylinder without the smallest center square lock bar in place?

Have you ever worked on a very old Sears double cylinder deadbolt? I’m working on a house that has two with a key broke off in one. Can not find a blank to cut for the locks so I was wondering would a kwikset blank work? It fits but is a little clicky after being rekeyed. Also there were two 7 pins in the chambers. That’s the first time that I have seen that.

I noticed that there are two key thicknesses with the early Weiser door locks. Am I correct in this observation? What is the difference between WR1.2 and a WR2? Is it thickness of the key?? Thanks, Terr

All Weiser have the same thickness of key. The different numbers only signified the different head shapes :)

Only ran into one of these old locks in my life. Frustration is what I remember most. I think it was 40 minutes later I got it done. I seriously would’ve put a new lock on the door. But I didn’t have a 5” latch for the new lock. Hope I never have to do anymore of these guys again

I re-keyed all 4 of my 1960 Weiser door knobs with the help of your video and the parts I ordered from you. One suggestion though, instead of using a screwdriver to hold down that spring while pulling up and turning the center thinner shaft, I found it way easier to use the center square hollow shaft to hold down the spring while pulling up on the thinner center shaft and screwing it in. I certainly got better re-keying each lock and the 4th one was the easiest. Thanks for the very helpful video and phone assistance.

I have this same door knob on a back door mud room at my house. I took it apart, but one of the tabs on a ring with two tabs on the non-keyed side broke. Is there any place I can find the replacement part and a parts diagram?

What is the size of the clip on top of the spring cage I also found that you can use a latch from the plastic cylinder locks on the old old old weiser

Another great video we dont have those kind of locks in the UK we have mortice Deadlock's, Yale, Chubb, Banham, Wink Hause and Euro cylinders to name just a few but i guess you know what i'm talking about. Lock's the world over are so different but all do basically the same job. What would you say is the most common NEW residential lock's that you are asked for or are standard on new builds in the US ?.

Gerry B builders here most often use the cheapest versions of Kwikset, Schlage, and occasionally Weslock (UGH) that they can. It’s often disheartening to go to a million dollar + house and see $20 locks on the doors 🙄

what tricks do you have for loading master wafers? I fill the bible with the right length drivers. then taking a simple core with zero cut pins, load all wafers on top. close it up. insert a blank key to open. push core out. Then fill the real core with the right key pins, and take any of the keys, with the right sidebar cuts to allow the core to be inserted slightly turned. then when it is rotated to 12, the missing wafers falls down, and the rekey is complete.
@RuneInternational
@RuneInternational 7 жыл бұрын
Kenneth B. because I mostly deal with sidebars, and do not have access to the magic key, which is cut to activate the sidebar and reach shear by using all the wafers
@RuneInternational
@RuneInternational 7 жыл бұрын
Kenneth B. we have too many different sidebar codes, and this is mostly for in the field repin on old locks, and trying to mess with sidebar pins is better without holding eyes on 10+ wafers trying to escape. often I don't have all the user keys to test with. then rather keep them caged in the bible.
